  • John Prescott has joined the Sunday Mirror as a columnist. He wants readers to send in comments and suggest story ideas by email or tweeting him @johnprescott.

  • Guy Adams has been appointed feature writer for the Daily Mail. He was previously at The Independent.

  • Ian Mean has been appointed content director for Local World’s Gloucestershire titles as well as Somerset, Dorset and Bristol. He was previously the editor of the Citizen and editor-in-chief of Gloucestershire Media.

  • Peter Dominiczak has been appointed political correspondent at The Daily Telegraph. He previously worked at the London Evening Standard.

  • Richard Williams is leaving his role as chief sports writer at the Guardian. He will write a sports column for the paper.

  • Martin Kelner has been appointed columnist at the Racing Post. He was previously a sports columnist at the Guardian.

  • Simon Carswell has been appointed Washington correspondent for the Irish Times.

  • Kenny Millar has been appointed sports writer at The Scottish Sun.

  • Nick Woodhead has been appointed editor of Lynn News.

  • The Guardian is launching a new weekly ‘Cook’ supplement. Cook will be part of the Saturday Guardian and will hunt for the nation’s best recipes as well as including regular features and columns.

  • Manchester Evening News has split into two editions: Manchester Evening News (North) and Manchester Evening News (South). The editorial team can still be reached at

  • Elaine Morgan is retiring from her role as columnist at the Western Mail and WalesOnline. The 92-year-old’s final column is available to read online.

  • Robin Duke has left his role as entertainment editor at The Blackpool Gazette. His farewell column, after 39 years in the role, is online.   


  • Tom Flack has been appointed managing editor of the Huffington Post UK.

  • Press Gazette is going online-only after deciding to focus on its digital publishing.


  • Nick Clegg has a slot on Nick Ferrari’s Thursday LBC breakfast show. ‘Call Clegg’ will last half an hour from 9am, with the deputy prime minister fielding questions from members of the public.

  • Rageh Omaar has been appointed special correspondent at ITV News. Rageh has previously worked as senior foreign correspondent at the BBC and more recently as a journalist and presenter for Al Jazeera.

  • The Social Affairs Unit blog covers news, current affairs, crime and politics. The blog has an archive dating back to June 2004 and shares a short blog roll.

Fashion, Lifestyle & Entertainment


  • Kelly Gilbert has been appointed contributing editor (beauty & health) at Vogue. Previously beauty & health editor, Kelly will be writing beauty and health features for Vogue and taking on consultancy projects.

  • Caroline Leaper has been appointed features assistant at InStyle.

  • Joanne Atkinson has been appointed deputy fashion editor at Good Housekeeping.

  • Maxine Briggs has been appointed editor of You & Your Wedding and Victoria Joy has been appointed online editor.

  • Lara Watson has been appointed editor of Mollie Makes and Jane Toft is now editor in chief.

  • James Batchelor has been appointed editor of Car Dealer Magazine. James will replace founding editor James Baggott who aims to focus on developing new areas of publisher Blackball Media’s business.

  • Keith Clarke has stepped down as editor of Classical Music magazine and managing editor of Rhinegold Publishing after 27 years with the firm. He now becomes consultant editor of Classical Music and is pursuing freelance opportunities. Kimon Daltas has been appointed editor, with Alex Stevens as deputy editor.

  • Neil Tappin has been promoted to digital editor of Golf Monthly and Alex Narey has been promoted to managing editor at the title.


  • Gary Stein has been appointed director of music for Bauer Media’s 16 northern English and Scottish Place radio stations.

  • Gaydar, the radio station, has transferred its license to Gaydio and closed.

  • Suzi Ring has been appointed trading & technology reporter for Financial News. Previously at Legal Week, Suzi now covers ETFs, commodities and legal (

  • Business Matters has launched an interactive iPad edition. The sampler edition is out now. Business Matters’ editor is Paul Jones and its online content editor is Rebecca Jones.

  • The No More Spending blog covers personal experience of getting out of debt, money saving tips, loans and credit cards. The blog has an archive dating back to February 2007, shares an extensive blog roll and can be found on Twitter @nomorespending.

Health, Science &Technology


  • Jack Clark is leaving ZDNet in February and relocating to San Francisco where he will work for The Register.   

  • Prokar Dasgupta has been appointed editor-in-chief of the BJUI (British Journal of Urology International).

  • The Sports Nutrition Vlog Blog covers sport nutrition advice, fitness plans and sport vitamins. The blog has an archive dating back to January 2008 and its author Matt Lovell can be found on Twitter @mattlovell.
