News & Current Affairs


  • Benita Adesuyan, commissioning editor at the Sunday Express Magazine, is now also TV editor responsible for the Switch On TV preview column. She will continue to look after the Sunday Best tried & tasted food reviews, wine, and celebrity interviews. Benita is interested in receiving information on new and forthcoming TV shows, screenings and previews. Benita can be reached by email via

  • Keith Harrison has been appointed editor of the Express & Star. He replaces Adrian Faber on 29 March.

  • Gerard Colleran has been appointed editor of the Irish Daily Star. Independent News and Media now have full executive control of the paper; they own 50% and Northern and Shell own 50%.

  • Jamie Presland has joined the Morley Observer & Advertister as a news reporter.

  • Ellie Cullen has been appointed crime reporter at the Crewe Chronicle.

  • Laura Barton has joined the Somerset County Gazette as a reporter. She will cover local news and is also responsible for the ‘What’s On’ section of the paper.

  • Sam Cooper has joined the Pontefract & Castleford Express as a news reporter.

  • Douglas Hill is leaving his role as editor of the Deeside Piper. A replacement is yet to be announced.

  • Paul Holland has left his role as news editor at the Cambridge News to become a communications officer for the British Antarctic Survey.

  • The Wakefield Express has been redesigned with the new look launching on 25 January.  The paper will also feature new content and a rebranded entertainments guide. Towards the end of February the news team will move to central offices on the Bull Ring.

  • The Yorkshire Evening Post is to be relaunched on 21 January. The redesigned paper will also feature a different daily pull-out Monday to Saturday.

  • The Oxfordshire Guardian and the Basingstoke Observer are relocating in mid-March 2013. The new address will be 4a Hawksworth, Southmead Industrial Park, Didcot, OX11 7HR.

  • The Oxford Journal will have a new address from 1 February: Unit 1, Bobby Fryer Close, Garsington Road, Oxford, OX4 6ZN.


  • Sky News is launching a new US West Coast bureau in Los Angeles. US Correspondent Greg Milam, currently based in Washington DC, will relocate to LA and set up the new bureau.

  • Katie Stallard is leaving her role as media and technology correspondent at Sky News in London to take up the position of Russia correspondent based in Moscow. Katie’s former role will be filled by Niall Paterson.

  • Christian Spooner has been appointed news editor at BBC Radio Merseyside. Christian is currently at Real Radio and Smooth Radio, he starts his new role in April.


  • Guardian News & Media is to launch a digital Australia edition. Katharine Viner, the Guardian’s deputy editor, will head up the venture when she relocates to Australia later this year.

  • The Drew B’s take on tech PR blog covers online marketing, social media, technology and press releases. The blog has an archive dating back to September 2004 and its author Drew Benvie can be found on Twitter @drewb.

Fashion, Lifestyle & Entertainment


  • Sarah Bailey has been appointed editor-in-chief of Red. Sarah was previously the deputy editor of Harper’s Bazaar UK and will start her new role on 12 February.

  • Beth Squires has been appointed senior editorial manager at Birchbox UK. Beth, previously Look‘s online news writer, covers beauty, lifestyle, music, film, TV, entertainment, celebrities, pop culture and events.

  • James Knowles has been appointed features editor at Drapers. He was previously features writer.

  • Matt Risley has been appointed online editor of Matt was previously web editor at Sky and producer for Sky Atlantic and Sky 1 Online.

  • Naomi Richmond-Swift is leaving her role as publisher of TATE ETC. to become marketing manager at Phaidon Press. A replacement is yet to be announced.

  • Simply Crochet is a new print and digital craft brand from Future. The magazine will be published 13 times a year.

  • ArtReview is moving to 1–5 Honduras Street, London, EC1Y OTH next week.


  • Anna Foster will join BBC Radio 5 live Drive as the new co-presenter alongside Peter Allen on the weekday programme. Anna will take up the position full-time in May.

  • Not Another Mummy Blog covers motherhood, family life, beauty and travel. The blog has an archive dating back to June 2011 and can be found on Twitter @notanothermummy.

Business & Finance


  • Michael Phillips has been appointed acting editor of Property Week from 18 February.

  • Gillian McKenzie has been appointed editor at Scottish Licensed Trade News. Gillian, who was previously deputy editor of the title, will start her new role 18 February. Current editor, Scott Wright, is leaving to join the business desk at The Herald.

  • Alison Cowie has been appointed editor of North East Times magazine.

  • Charlotte Kemp has been appointed editor of Stationary Magazine.

  • The Lancashire Business View website has been fully revamped and now features an online community.


  • Prolific North is a new website dedicated to the media and creative industries of the North. Nick Jaspan is the publisher and its core editorial team consists of journalists Stephen Chapman and David Prior.

  • Qube will publish 10 digital issues from February. The magazine’s last print edition was released in December and it is now focusing on its digital offering.

  • The Technology Law Update blog is hosted by Mills & Reeve. The blog covers technology business laws and legal news. The blog has an archive dating back September 2012. Mills & Reeve can be found on Twitter @MillsandReeve.

Sport, Science & Technology


  • Marty Morrissey has been appointed Gaelic Games correspondent at RTÉ.



  • MVP is increasing its frequency to 6 issues a year. The British basketball title is also available in a digital format.

Blog Spotlight

  • The Technology Blogged (TB) blog covers gadgets, reviews, technology news and software. The blog has an archive dating back to November 2009, features a short blog roll and its author Jakk Ogden can be found on Twitter @technoholicjakk.

Around the World

  • Stylist will launch a weekly edition in France from spring 2013. It is a joint venture from Groupe Marie Claire and Shortlist Media.

  • Ryland Fisher has joined the Daily Maverick (South Africa) as opinion columnist. Prior to this he was the editor of the Cape Times and The New Age and assistant editor at the Sunday Times.

  • Australian publisher Focal Attractions has acquired media industry title Adbrief from Thomson Reuters.

  • Oral Çalışlar, columnist at Radikal newspaper (Turkey), will become editor-in-chief of Taraf daily newspaper on 1 February.

  • Garry Ferris has been appointed Auckland editor-in-chief for Fairfax Media New Zealand. He starts in his new role on 4 February.
