  • Stefan Kyriazis has been appointed reviews editor at Star magazine. Stefan, who was previously the music editor, has replaced Louise Purser

  • Simon Lucas has been appointed editor of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision.

  • Farewell magazine, a new quarterly funeral planning and ideas guide, launches January 2013. The publication will cover funeral planning, memorial ideas, articles from professionals and pets. For more information call 01246 541941.

  • Dandy has gone on sale as a printed comic for the last time. The 100-page special includes a reprint of the first ever issue. Desperate Dan and friends will live on in a smartphone and tablet app. 

  • The Chelsea Magazine Company is relocating in the New Year. From 1 January 2013 its new address will be Jubilee House, 2 Jubilee Place, London, SW3 3TQ. The Chelsea Magazine Company publishes titles including Artists & Illustrators, Cruise International and Racecar Engineering.

Broadcast

  • Mary Anne Hobbs has joined BBC Radio 6 Music. She will present the new weekend breakfast show on Saturdays and Sundays 7am – 10am from 5 January 2013. Mary previously worked for Radio 1, Xfm and on sound design for the Oscar-winning film Black Swan.

Blog Spotlight

  • The 12×75.com blog covers industry interviews, fine wine, product reviews and wine events. The blog has an archive dating back to August 2011 and can be found on Twitter @12×75.

News & Current Affairs

Newspapers

  • Mike Darcy has been appointed CEO of News International. Mike, currently chief operating officer of BskyB, will replace Tom Mockridge at the end of the year.

  • James Traynor has written his final column for the Daily Record in which he criticises current journalism. James states that his conscience won’t allow him to stay in the profession.

  • John Vale has been appointed reporter at the Slough and South Bucks Observer.

  • John Lavery is leaving his role as editor at the Sleaford Standard. John has been in charge of the paper for eleven and a half years.

  • The Guardian Weekly has been redesigned and now includes a two-page roundup of world news, an Eyewitnessed photo spread and expanded comment sections. A full explanation of the redesign can be found on The Guardian’s website.

  • The Daily Mirror has launched a free five-day iPad app. The app will contain exact digital copies of the weekday papers with content from the Saturday paper and Sunday Mirror available to view on a 7-day app at a cost of £5 per month.

  • Anna Saunders is the acting features editor for Stella magazine while Kate Salter is on maternity leave.

Blog Spotlight

  • The OllieBray blog covers innovation and creativity in education and teaching. It has an archive dating back to November 2009 and features an extensive blogroll. The author Ollie Bray can be found on Twitter @olliebray.

  • Jessica Davies has joined The Drum at its Shoreditch office as senior reporter. Jessica previously worked at New Media Age.

  • Kirsty Kelly has been appointed editor at Projects Magazine. Kirsty has previous experience as a journalist and science editor.

  • GP Magazine has launched a fully-interactive iPad edition. The digital copy is free for UK GPs from the App Store.

  • Krystal Sellars has been appointed editor of the Cessnock Advertiser (Australia). Krystal is taking over from Bruce Wilson who has retired.
