We live-tweeted most events and also posted some content right here on Cision Blog. As members of the social team, we wanted to share this invaluable content with our audience and learn tips and tricks ourselves.
As the tweeting, Facebook-ing, pinning, blogging Cision employees, Gina, Terra and I tend to be the ones you see and hear. But behind-the-scenes at our company, there is a never-ending supply of passionate, forward-thinking, innovative staff. Today, we introduce you to some of these people.
Here are a few of the people in Cision’s Chicago office who jumped head-first into #SMW12. These are the type of people Cision employs; people who choose to attend events after work and on their breaks so they can learn from the best of the best, and bring this knowledge back to all of you.
What did you experience at #SMW12?
Social media week was as intense as it was fun. On Monday in Chicago, Rockit Bar & Grill hosted a classy, yet approachable, night. Writers, marketers, and entrepreneurs crammed into the upstairs loft space. It was great to hear from so many startups and my favorite was Project Fixup, a new dating site for busy professionals. We wined and dined and chatted about tweeting and Facebooking while our tweets were livestreaming on the TVs surrounding us. It was an added perk to meet people who loved Cision’s products. It was so great to hear people think what we know is true: we’re the top name in our space.

I really enjoyed hearing from some panelists I have followed on Twitter but have never seen in person. It was also fun to get out to the happy hour before Rockit’s “How to Build a Community from Scratch” and meet some new friends. After all, social media is all about trying new things and engaging with new people!

When I was networking with people and was asked what company I worked for, it was refreshing to hear Cision recognized in a positive light time-and-time again. Both companies large and small knew of our products. Some people said, “Oh, yeah, we use Cision all the time. We love it!” or “Cision has been such a great resource for us.” It was great to hear how we’ve made an impact.

I found the tips presented at #SMWSEO informative and interesting. Content creation still drives proactive SEO. One good tip was to use YouTube for higher Google rankings. Also, if you’re pitching content to journalists, be aware of their reach and SEO, too.

I learned a lot from #SMW12, including the fact that I need to purchase an extended battery for my iPhone and a personal hotspot. Or I’ll do what Lifehacker says and save some money. But back to #SMW12: I think the biggest lesson I learned is that in social media, you have to let go of control. This is something I was aware of but hearing it again and again made me realize evermore the importance of one’s product and clients. The product and service is what our clients experience, and they control our message. Social media is a powerful and uniting tool when used correctly.
