Look, I don’t want to put you in panic mode, but December 31 is racing towards us at warp speed. Before you know it, 2016 will be over and it will be time to jump into a new year for your business.
Before you spend the next several weeks in holiday party mode and eat your weight in gingerbread men, however, I encourage you to mark these marketing tasks off of your to-do list so you can start next year prepared.
Whether you conducted a mid-year check-in or not, you absolutely need one for the end of the year with regards to how your marketing efforts performed the past 12 months.
Why You Need to Do It: Looking back at where you invested time and energy for your marketing can help you determine which tools actually netted the results you wanted and which were a waste of time. That will help you with the next task.
Now that you know what your marketing successes were in 2016, you can craft game plan for next year. You’ll want to focus your attention on those strategies that got fabulous results and also experiment with some new tactics and leave room for yet-to-be-created marketing tools.
Why You Need to Do It: While your marketing plan should be flexible to a degree, it’s still wise to have an overall strategy for where you want to take your business and how you’ll engage customers for the new year.
Look, I know it’s impossible to try out every. single. marketing. tool. out. there. But you owe it to your brand to try at least a handful every quarter. Yes, the human brain is resistant to change, but once you get over that initial obstacle, you’ll find social media, content marketing and advertising tools that help you do a heck of a lot more marketing with less effort.
Why You Need to Do It: You want to remain competitive, don’t you? ‘Nuff said.
Whether you’re a one-person marketing team or have a staff at your command, it’s important to look at what everyone is doing and make sure that each person is best-suited to his or her role. For example, you may have hired a marketing assistant to help with social media, but mid-year added blogging to her list of tasks. Only she’s not really excelling in that area. So now’s the time to figure out a better solution. Maybe you hire a content marketing firm or freelancer to handle that part of your marketing.
Why You Need to Do It: When each person on your marketing team thrives in his or her role, your marketing absolutely sings.
Make it a priority to spend some time thinking about these aspects of your marketing now so that, come January 1, you are ready to rock n roll into a new year.
