Amidst recent restructuring and reorganizing of its business and economics divisions, The Wall Street Journal has announced several editorial departures, many out of the paper’s Washington bureau:

  • Neil King, global economics editor and deputy bureau chief for WSJ’s Washington bureau since 2014, has accepted a buyout. King has worked out of D.C. for more than a decade covering various topics.
  • Gary Fields, criminal justice reporter accepted a buyout. Fields has been with WSJ since 2000.
  • Mary Lu Carnevale, news editor for financial regulation has accepted a buyout.
  • Melanie Trottman, labor and economics reporter, has accepted a buyout. She has worked out of the Washington bureau since 2008, and previously covered airlines and travel for WSJ out of Dallas.
  • Anna Sussman, economics reporter, has accepted a buyout. She joined WSJ in 2015, and prior to that worked at Reuters for several years.
  • Autumn Brewington, editor for WSJ’s Think Tank, has accepted a buyout. She joined the daily in 2014 and previously spent more than a decade at the Washington Post.

Two reporters at WSJ’s San Francisco bureau have also accepted buyouts: real estate reporter Candace Jackson, who has been with the paper since 2005, and Rebecca Smith, national energy reporter. In addition, three other people have been let go out of the paper’s main office in New York:

  • Laura Landro, a 35-year veteran who joined WSJ in 1981 as a reporter and most recently served as assistant managing editor and health columnist.
  • Tracy Armstead, visual news editor, and Jessica Yu, global head of visuals.
