CisionScoop: Backstage, the magazine for actors, singers, dancers and associated performing arts professionals, has promoted Benjamin Lindsay to senior editor. Lindsay previously served as associate editor for the publication, and first joined the staff in 2015. He is also a contributor for Vanity Fair and Rotten Tomatoes.
CisionScoop: Penton Media has hired Gloria Dawson as senior editor for its Restaurant and Food Group, which includes Nation’s Restaurant News, Restaurant Hospitality and Supermarket News. She will cover the intersection of business, restaurants, and food. Dawson has previously worked for Quartz, The DailyGreen, and Seventeen magazine among others.
Current Business Insider political correspondent Natasha Bertrand is headed to The Atlantic in mid-February to join the staff as a writer. She will cover US security and security agencies. Bertrand has been with Business Insider since 2014, when she joined as an editorial intern. The Atlantic has also named James Sommers contributing editor, effective immediately. He has most recently worked as a developer for Genius and Pivotal Labs. h/t Talking Biz News
Matea Gold has been named national political enterprise and investigations editor for The Washington Post. In her new role, Gold will lead WaPo’s high-profile stories including the Russia investigation and the intersection of President Trump’s private business and public office. Gold joined the paper in 2013 as a reporter on the money and politics beat, and has previously reported for the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.
The Philadelphia Daily News has parted ways with Howard Gensler. He was the entertainment and movie editor, and had been with the paper since 1997, when he joined the staff as weekend editor. Prior to that, he freelanced for Premiere magazine and served as an editor for TV Guide.
WDJT-TV, the CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, has welcomed Andy Devine as reporter. He comes from ABC 30 in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was a reporter and producer for the political show The Allman Report. Prior to that, he was a multimedia journalist for WAAY-TV in Huntsville, Alabama.
Fred D’Ambrosi has left his news director position at WOIO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cleveland. He had been with the station since 2015, and oversaw news content across all broadcast and digital platforms. Prior to that, he was the news director for WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. He also spent more than a decade in San Diego, overseeing KFMB stations as news director.
NowThis, the original and aggregated video site covering news and politics, has added Jon Laurence as deputy editor. Laurence comes from Channel 4 News in London, where he spent almost three years as head of digital. Prior to that, he worked for Telegraph Media Group as video planner and head of planning.
Columnist Michael Kahn has left Barron’s after more than 15 years. He penned the Getting Technical column since 2001. Prior to that, Kahn contributed to Profitable Trading, and also served as a monthly columnist for MarketWatch. h/t Talking Biz News
