Barbara Chai has been named senior editor at The Wall Street Journal covering lifestyle and the arts, including books, theater, film and television. She was previously head of arts, culture and life coverage at Dow Jones for a little over a year. Before that, she served as the managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Speakeasy for three years.
Robert O'Harrow has switched roles at the The Washington Post and is now part of the Rapid Response Team as investigative reporter. He is a veteran at WaPo, and has worked on the local, financial and investigative staffs. He is also a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for his work at the paper.
Newsweek has rehired Fred Guterl as special projects editor. He most recently served as special projects editor at The New York Times Magazine, and prior to that spent seven years at Scientific American as executive editor. Guterl also served as deputy editor for Newsweek between 2000 and 2010.
Daniel Miller has a new beat at the Los Angeles Times and now covers enterprise business as a reporter. He works on investigations, features and other projects. Miller has been with the paper since 2013 and previously covered the business of entertainment. He has also reported for The Hollywood Reporter and the Los Angeles Business Journal.
InStyle has welcomed Laurel Pantin as fashion features director. She comes from The Coveteur, where she spent the last two years as editorial director. Before that, she worked for Hearst Digital Media as senior fashion editor for Sweet, style editor for Lucky magazine, and associate market/shopping editor for Glamour.
Alexis Del Cid will join WOAI-TV, the NBC-affiliated station for San Antonio, Texas, August 13 as midday news anchor. Del Cid is currently wrapping up her duties as morning anchor for KCTV-TV in Kansas City, Missouri. Before that, she spent two years as anchor/reporter at KOIN-TV in Portland, Oregon.
Dean Cappello has exited New York Public Radio and WNYC-AM in New York after 21 years at the station. He most recently served as chief content officer and SVP of programming. During his tenure, he developed the strategy behind the launch of the radio's new properties including Radiolab, Freakonomics Radio, On the Media, The Takeaway, 2 Dope Queens, Note to Self, Death, Sex & Money, and Nancy. Prior to WNYC, Cappello spent six years at Monitor Radio & TV.
KHOU-TV, the CBS affiliate in Houston, Texas, has hired Robert Springer as vice president and station manager, effective August 1. He was previously at KUSA-TV in Denver, Colorado, where he held business development, sales design and production roles. He has also worked in the newsroom, art department and as a promotions writer and producer while at KARE-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
