Mike Spector will join Reuters as U.S. corporate crisis correspondent on Oct. 1. He will focus on corporate scandals, legal troubles and regulatory or federal investigations. Spector comes from The Wall Street Journal, where he most recently wrote about the automotive industry. He has been with the Journal since 2006, and has also reported on companies facing government investigations into misconduct, financial collapse – or both.
Vox has promoted Mona Lalwani to executive producer of Vox video’s short form. She has been with Vox since 2017, when she joined the staff as story video editor. Lalwani is a former senior editor at Engadget, and has also worked for The Verge and Platform magazine in India.
Kathy Gilsinan, current senior editor for The Atlantic covering global affairs, will move to cover the counter-terrorism beat as a staff writer in October. She has been with the magazine since 2014, and previously worked for World Politics Review as associate editor, and Pajhwok Afghan News as editor/consultant.
Essence Magazine has hired Joi-Marie McKenzie as senior entertainment editor. She was most recently a writer and editor for Good Morning America, covering culture, style and relationships for ABC's digital platforms. McKenzie had been with ABC since January 2012, first as an entertainment producer for ABC News, followed by a role with ABC News Digital as entertainment and lifestyle editor.
Althea Chang is the new associate director of content development for Consumer Reports. She was most recently at Time Inc., where she was senior news editor at The Drive. Prior to that, she served as a senior writer for Tom's Guide writing stories on technology. Before that, she worked at CNBC as video producer and writer.
Inside Defense has named Mallory Shelbourne associate editor and reporter covering the Navy and Marine Corps. She was previously with The Hill on the transportation and breaking news beats, and before that wrote for Independent Journal Review as political reporter.
Longtime editor Tom Quinlan has retired from the Daily Herald in Chicago, after 40 years at the paper. He joined the staff in 1978 as a copy editor and held a variety of jobs including reporter, assistant news editor, assistant features editor, features editor, weekend editor, city editor and metro editor.
KABZ-FM radio in Little Rock, Arkansas, has hired Wess Moore as co-host of The Zone alongside Justin Acuri. Moore will continue his duties as sports director at Fox-owned KLRT-TV, a position he has held since 2003. He has previously hosted Game in with Wess Moore on KAFN-A sports.
Amanda Crawford is the new morning anchor at WYFF-TV, the NBC station in Greenville, South Carolina. She joined Geoff Hart on the anchor desk weekday mornings beginning at 4:30am. She comes from WESH-TV in Orlando, where she spent two years as a reporter. Before that, she was an anchor/reporter at KETV-TV in Omaha, Nebraska.
CBS-owned KTVT-TV in Fort Worth, Texas has promoted Laurie Passman to vice president and news director, upped from assistant news director. She has been with the station since 2012, and prior to that lead the newsroom of KOB-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as news director for one year.
