The Wall Street Journal energy reporter Erin Ailworth has relocated to the paper's Chicago bureau as Midwest correspondent; she will also cover natural disasters. Ailworth has been with WSJ since 2014, when she joined the staff as a reporter covering renewable energy. She came from the Boston Globe, where she spent seven years reporting on energy, clean technology, and utilities.
Buzzfeed News’s China bureau chief, Megha Rajagopalan, is back in the US as technology correspondent after China did not grant her a journalist visa. She had been the site's China bureau chief since 2017 and has written about surveillance and mass incarceration of ethnic Uighurs and other Muslim minorities in Northeast China. Prior to that, she worked for Reuters for five years.
Dylan Byers has joined NBC and MSNBC as senior media reporter, and will cover the intersection of media, entertainment and technology from Los Angeles. He was most recently a senior reporter at CNN and author of the Pacific newsletter. Before that he spent four years at Politico as political media reporter.
The Hill's Morgan Chalfant has changed beats and now covers national security. She was previously reporting on cybersecurity. Chalfant has been with The Hill since 2017, and joined the staff from the Washington Free Beacon where he spent two years as a reporter.
The Athletic and its regional editions continue to staff up with reporters who have jumped ship from print onto digital media. The latest additions come to The Athletic Chicago and The Athletic, D.C., which both added two veteran hockey beat writers to its roster of talent:
- Longtime Chicago Blackhawks beat reporter Mark Lazerus has joined The Athletic Chicago as a columnist and senior writer, and will write on all Chicago sports with an emphasis on hockey. Lazerus previously spent several years at the Chicago Sun-Times as a sports reporter. Before that, he was the sports editor of the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana.
- Another longtime Chicago sports reporter, Chris Kuc, has joined The Athletic, Washington D.C., as a senior NHL writer covering the Washington Capitals hockey team. He previously had a brief stint with NHL.com as a correspondent, and prior to that spent several years at the Chicago Tribune covering a variety of sports teams.
Rahel Gebreyes has joined Genius as a producer and focuses on the outlet's original video series For The Record. She was previously a video editor for HuffPost, and before that spent a year as a HuffPost live associate editor. Genius provides crowd-sourced annotations of rap and hip-hop lyrics from Genius.com's in-house creative team, artists and the fan community.
SEC Network and NBC's WCNC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina have hired Alyssa Lang as sports anchor. She previously spent two years at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida as a sports reporter/anchor, and before that worked for WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jim Quinn and Rose Somma-Tennent are returning to Pittsburgh's radio waves as co-hosts Sept. 24, this time at iHeartRadio's WBGG-AM sports radio. They will co-host a new morning show which will air from 8:00 am to 10:00 am daily. Quinn and Somma-Tennent worked together during a long stint on former Pittsburgh FM news/talk WPGB until 2013.
