Matt Viser will join The Washington Post as a national politics reporter on Oct. 1. He will cover the final stretch of the midterms while helping put The Post in position to dominate coverage of the 2020 presidential election. He comes from a 15-year career at the Boston Globe, covering a wide range of beats including Boston City Hall and the statehouse. He has also covered the past two presidential campaigns, focusing on Republican nominees Mitt Romney in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016.
The Wall Street Journal has named Jessica Menton markets reporter. She was previously a senior platform editor for WSJ.com, and joined the paper in 2015 as a news editor. Before that, she spent four years at the International Business Times as finance and markets reporter.
Shahien Nasiripour has been reassigned to cover the Trump Organization for Bloomberg News. He previously covered Wells Fargo. Nasiripour has been with Bloomberg since 2016, and before that reported for HuffPost as chief regulatory and financial correspondent.
The Associated Press has hired Juana Summers as political reporter. She covers the Democratic party out of the Washington, D.C., bureau.Summers is a seasoned political journalist and was previously a senior political writer for CNN online. Before that, she worked for Mashable as politics editor, and NPR as congressional reporter.
GQ magazine's longtime editor in chief, Jim Nelson, has stepped down from his post after 15 years at the helm. He had been with GQ since 1997, when he joined as a senior editor. Will Welch, who has lead GQ Style for the past three years, has been named GQ editor in chief. He has been with Conde Nast since 2007, when he joined the staff of GQ as associate editor.
Tracy Baim has been appointed publisher of the Chicago Reader. She is the founder, executive editor and publisher of Windy City Times, Chicago’s oldest and only LGBTQ newspaper, and has been with the publication since its launch in 1985. Baim received the 2013 Chicago Headline Club Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2014, she was inducted into the National LGBT Journalists Association Hall of Fame.
