The Los Angeles Times has promoted one, reassigned another, and hired a reporter:
- Johana Bhuiyan has joined the staff as technology reporter covering accountability. He comes from Re/code, where he spent the last two years as senior transportation reporter. Before that, he was a tech reporter at BuzzFeed, and digital media reporter at Capital New York.
- Matt Stiles is now metro reporter for the LA Times, covering Los Angeles county government. He was previously a special correspondent for the paper out of Seoul for two years. Before that, he worked for The Wall Street Journal and NPR.
- B.J. Terhune has been promoted to assistant metro editor, upped from multimedia editor at the paper. He has been with LA Times since 2015, and before that worked for the Orange County Register and Los Angeles Register.
Kathryn Watson is now White House reporter for CBS News Digital. She was previously a politics reporter for CBS News online and has been with the network since 2017. Prior to that, she worked as an investigative reporter for The Daily Caller, and an investigative reporter for Watchdog.org before that.
The Drum has tapped Ginger Conlon as its U.S. editor. She is a veteran marketing journalist, who has worked as chief editor and marketing alchemist for MKTGinsight and chief editor and content strategist for Customer Alchemy. Additionally, she has held the posts of editor in chief at Direct Marketing News, contributing editor to MarTech Advisor and editorial director of 1to1 Media.
The Washington Post will launch its new podcast, "Post Reports," at the end of the year, and has named Martine Powers its host. She has been with the paper since 2016 and has served as metro reporter on the transportation team since then. Before that, she worked for Politico Pro as transportation reporter.
Fernando Diaz has been named editor in chief and publisher of The Chicago Reporter; he starts Nov. 19 and succeeds Susan Smith Richardson, who left the paper after five years at the helm. Diaz most recently was managing editor at the San Francisco Chronicle digital, and is a onetime reporter for the Daily Herald and former managing editor of the Spanish-language daily Hoy Chicago.
Dan Abrams, the chief legal analyst at ABC News and host of A&E's “Live PD,” has became the anchor of a new weekday SiriusXM show, “The Dan Abrams Show: Where Politics Meets The Law.” The show premiered Oct. 29 and runs at 2 p.m. on SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S. channel; on it, Abrams analyzes the biggest news stories of the day from a legal perspective.
CBS-affiliated WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. has hired Annie Yu as a weekday morning anchor/reporter. She is on-air during the 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. news hour. She previously spent three years as a producer at the Los Angeles Times, and before that worked as a City Hall reporter for the Arizona Republic.
Borna Velic is the new program director and PM drive time on-air personality for WHQG-FM radio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.He was promoted from MD/afternoon on-air personality, and has been with the station since 2013 when he joined from WZOR-FM in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
