Jacqueline Gifford has been named editor in chief of Travel + Leisure, replacing Nathan Lump at the helm. Gifford was most recently the travel director at the brand, and first joined the title in 2013. She has also worked for Brides magazines as travel editor, OK! Magazine as featured editor, and Vanity Fair as editorial associate.
The New York Times Magazine has welcomed David Marchese as Talk columnist, and will help revamp and relaunch the column in early 2019. He comes from New York magazine, where he worked for four years during which he was also the editor of the Culture pages of the magazine. Before that he was the deputy editor of Rolling Stone’s website. He’s also written features for Spin, GQ, The New York Times Magazine and Rolling Stone.
Karron Skog has been promoted to associate managing editor at The New York Times, supervising a newly created Home team. She oversees the homescreen, briefings and alerts teams. Skog spent the past two years building The Times’s service journalism efforts in Smarter Living as editorial director. Before that, she spent several years as editor of the News Desk. Skog joined The Times in 2005 as a staff editor on the National desk.
Seung Min Kim, the current White House reporter for The Washington Post, has joined CNN in Washington as political analyst. She has been with The Post since February 2018, and before that spent almost a decade as congressional reporter for Politico.
Skift has hired Raini Hamdi as Asia editor based in Singapore. He is a veteran travel industry journalist, who previously covered Asia’s travel and tourism industry for 18 years as TTG Asia Media travel editor. Before that, he served as the editor for Venture Asia Publishing. Skift offers news, information, data and services to professionals in the travel industry and professional travelers.
Email newsletter and website New Haven Biz has launched a print magazine. It will publish eight times in 2019, and aims at filling a void in the New Haven and the southern Connecticut market for a business-to-business print publication. Michael Bingham leads that team as editor.
Joshua Armstrong has been tapped by Acuris as bureau chief tasked to open the outlet's new Charlottesville, Virginia bureau. He comes from S&P Global Market Intelligence where he spent the last three years as industry editor overseeing regulatory and congressional coverage for bank and thrift news. Before that, he was an associate editor for SNL Financial.
NBC's KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon, has hired Steve Carter as general manager and president, responsible for the overall operations of the station. He starts Dec. 3. Carter was previously the GM and president of KUSA-TV in Denver, Colorado, and before that spent five years in the same capacity at WCSH-TV in Portland.
Ablie Dee has joined WIAD-FM radio in Washington, D.C., as PM drive time on-air personality broadcasting during the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. timeslot. She previously had a brief stint at WTMP-AM in Tampa Bay, Florida as program director, and before that spent three years at WKHI-FM in Fruitland, Maryland.
