The New York Times has hired Dodai Stewart as deputy metro editor, effective Oct. 29. She is the founding editor of Jezebel. As a writer and editor, Stewart wrote on politics, criminal justice, immigration, gender, race, marketing and popular culture. She spent seven years at Jezebel, and then joined Fusion as director of culture coverage. She was later promoted to editor in chief of Splinter.
Serafin Gomez has joined CBS News in Washington, D.C., as White House producer. He previously spent 13 years at FOX News and covered presidential campaigns and breaking news around the world. Most recently, he was Fox News’ chief White House correspondent.
The Washington Post has welcomed Nora Simon is a multiplatform editor, effective Nov. 5. She comes from The Oregonian and OregonLive.com, where she most recently served as copy editor. Simon's journalism career at the Oregonian started as a copy-editing intern in 2011 and later, she took on responsibilities as a letters editor, online producer, and page producer.
Meredith Corp. has named Carey Witmer EVP/group publisher of Meredith's Entertainment Group, which includes PEOPLE, Entertainment Weekly and People En Español. She was previously the EVP/group publisher for Rachael Ray Everyday, Eating Well, and All Recipes, and has been with Meredith since 1998.
Pedro da Costa has moved to Market News International as a reporter covering the economy and federal reserve policy out of Washington, D.C. He most recently spent a little over a year at Business Insider as senior correspondent, and before that served as an editorial fellow at Peterson Institute for International Economics. He also wrote about economics and financial markets for The Wall Street Journal and Reuters.
Portland's NBC affiliate KGW-TV has hired a husband and wife duo, as an anchor and reporter respectively:
- Dan Haggerty joins the staff as an anchor, alongside longtime anchor Laural Porter.The two will anchor the station’s 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. shows, Monday through Friday. Haggerty was previously an anchor/reporter for KTVT-TV in Dallas.
- Cristin Severance joins the staff as an investigative reporter. She has been with KTVT-TV in Dallas since 2015. She is a nine time Emmy winner, and has also worked for ABC in San Diego.
American Conservative has brought back James Antle, this time as editor, covering politics and political parties. He previously spent three years at the Washington Examiner as politics editor, and before that worked as the managing editor of The Daily Caller for three years. His first sting with American Conservative was from 2004 through 2006, when he served as a senior writer.
