Jacob Ward will join NBC News as technology correspondent out of San Francisco in December. He comes from Al Jazeera, where he spent the last five years as a science correspondent. Prior to that, he was at the helm of Popular Science magazine as editor in chief, and a host for National Geographic Channel.
The Washington Post has welcomed Ziva Branstetter as corporate accountability editor. She will focus on focus on business investigations and enterprise, as well as leading beats on Wall Street and the business of space. Branstetter was previously a senior editor at the Center for Investigative Reporting, editor in chief of The Frontier, and enterprise editor of Tulsa World.
Patrick Chu has been tapped by The Wall Street Journal as senior publishing editor. Chu is the former San Francisco Business Times editor in chief, who lead the paper for the past four years. Before that, he spent 17 years at Bloomberg News in a variety of positions, including West Coast bureau chief, global managing editor, Asia managing editor and top news editor.
In a bid to attract more readers, Re/code will fold into Vox.com, and will relaunch as a section of the site in the new year. With that, come the following staff changes:
- Daniel Frommer, current editor in chief, will leave the tech site ahead of the transition. He has been with Re/code since 2016, and has also worked for Quartz, ReadWriteWeb, and Silicon Alley Insider (now Business Insider.)
- Lauren Williams will take over Re/code as editor in chief. She will continue to be the editor in chief of Vox.com, a position she has held since September 2017.
Casey Clark has joined CBS's KCTV-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, as news director. He previously lead the newsroom of WHEC-TV in Rochester, New York for two years, and before that worked for WBFF-TV in Baltimore, Maryland as assistant news director.
Meredith Corp. has promoted Lee Slattery to VP/group publisher. She continues as publisher of Family Circle and adds oversight of Health magazine. Slattery has been with the company since 2007, and before that worked as a VP/publisher for several Conde Nast titles.
After more than 30 years at the St. Louis Business Journal, Joe Dwyer has left his post of editor in chief, a position he has held since February 2016. He joined the Business Journal in 1988 as a reporter, and after seven years was named associate editor and, in 1997, was named managing editor.
