Erin Richards has joined USA Today as a national education correspondent focusing on national trends and developments in K-12 education; she is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Richards comes from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where she spent the last 12 years reporting on Milwaukee's varied public, private voucher and charter schools as well as statewide education politics and policy. Richards is also an alum of the Spencer Fellowship for Education Reporting at Columbia University and the O'Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University.
The San Francisco Chronicle has tapped Shwanika Narayan as a reporter covering retail and logistics. She was previously a trade, manufacturing and retail reporter for the Los Angeles Business Journal, and before that spent two years working for Facebook's product data integrity team. Narayan has also worked at AJ+, Al Jazeera’s digital vertical, and freelanced for NBC News, Quartz and Hyphen magazine.
Yahoo Finance has launched "Influencers with Andy Serwer" Jan.10, a weekly program airing each Thursday at 5 p.m. Hosted by Yahoo Finance's editor in chief, Andy Serwer, the show focuses on industry trends and the macro economy through a business lens. Sewer interviews some of the biggest names in business, politics, entertainment, sports, and academia.
Kyle Wagner has been appointed director of digital audience development for sports at the New York Daily News. He takes over for recently fired sports editor, Erik Barrow. Wagner comes from FiveThirtyEight, where he has served as senior sorts editor since 2015. Before that, he worked for Gizmodo and Deadspin.
The Austin Business Journal has brought on Erin Edgemon as a staff writer to cover real estate, both commercial and residential. She reports not just on real estate transactions and trends, but also on the people who make them happen.Most recently, Edgemon spent six years as a reporter in Birmingham, Ala., for Alabama Media Group, and before that spent a decade as a journalist in Tennessee, including as the business editor of the Murfreesboro Post.
Joel Christopher will take the helm of Knoxville News Sentinel on Feb. 4 as executive editor. He replaces Jack McElroy, who will retire on Feb. 1 after a 43-year journalism career and 17 years as top editor in Knoxville. Christopher is currently wrapping up his duties as executive editor of the Courier Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, a position he has held since 2016. Before that, he served as vice president of news at Gannett/USA Today Network in Wisconsin.
Fox-owned WFXT-TV in Boston has hired Nicole Oliverio as a weekend anchor and reporter, effective Jan. 4. She co-anchors weekends at 10 and 11 p.m. alongside Chris Flanagan, and also reports weekdays for Boston 25 Morning News. Oliverio is a seasoned Boston reporter and has spent the last 11 years reporting and anchoring in the area, mainly at WHDH-TV. Prior to that, she worked at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Fla., WCAX-TV and WMDN-TV.
Kelsey Gibbs is a new reporter at WTVF-TV, the CBS affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee. She comes from Tribune Media, where she spent the last two years as multimedia journalist at KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to that, she worked as a statehouse reporter at WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois.
KTVX-TV, the ABC-affiliated station in Salt Lake City, Utah, has announced the appointment of Emily Florez as anchor on the 5, 6 and 10 pm newscasts of the station. Most recently, she served an an anchor and reporter for WMAQ-TV in Chicago for six years, and before that worked for KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City, and KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
