Politico has named Anna Palmer as the first-ever editorial director of the outlet’s Women Rule newsletter. She will continue to co-write Politico’s Playbook, a position she’s held since 2016. She joined the outlet in 2011 as a senior Washington correspondent after spending four years at Roll Call.
Sarah Isgur, a Trump administration former official, has joined CNN as a political analyst based in Washington, D.C. She recently served as the Justice Department’s lead spokeswoman under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and has also worked for Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who has overseen the special counsel’s Russia investigation.
CBS Television Network has promoted Susan Zirinsky to president of CBS News. She becomes the first woman to lead the division at CBS, and only the second to lead any of the broadcast news divisions, following Deborah Turness at NBC News. Zirinsky succeeds David Rhodes, who exited the network earlier this year. She joined CBS News in 1972, and most recently served as the senior executive producer of “48 Hours Mystery.” She was also the inspiration for Holly Hunter's harried producer in the 1987 movie "Broadcast News."
The Washington Post has announced several staff additions and updates across the organization, including moves at both its print and online divisions:
· Mark Seibel has joined the paper as technology policy editor overseeing coverage of technology with a focus on the intersection between tech companies and government regulation, privacy and election security. He was previously at Buzzfeed for two years as national security editor, and at McClatchy before that as chief of correspondents.
· Cleve Wootson is now national politics reporter covering the 2020 presidential campaign. He joined The Post in 2016 as a general assignment reporter, and before that spent 13 years at The Charlotte Observer.
· Reed Albergotti has joined The Post in San Francisco as a consumer electronics reporter. He comes from The Information, where she spent the last four years writing about people and businesses at the center of one of the most important and rapidly-evolving industries. Before that, he was at The Wall Street Journal for more that a decade.
· Rachel Hatzipanagos has been upped to multiplatform editor for The Post's Snapchat Discover platform. She was previously a multiplatform editor for emerging news products and has been with the paper since 2016.
Jim Rosica has been promoted to senior editor at Florida Politics. He was previously the capital correspondent for the outlet and will remain in Tallahassee, Florida. In addition to his new editing duties, Rosica will continue to cover the courts and regulated industries beats. He has been with the politics and policy news site since 2015.
The Hyde Park Herald in Chicago has hired Samantha Smylie as a reporter covering education, housing, retail, and development. She was previously a freelance writer and completed a fellowship with City Bureau in 2018.
Stuart J. Wattles has joined Magnum Media as news director for news/talk radio WRJN-AM and country WVTY-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has worked in the Kenosha-Racine local radio since 2002 and spent the last 12 years at WIIL-FM in Union, Wisconsin.
