Steven Gaydos has been promoted to content/executive editor and vice president for Variety. He oversees all editorial for features, events, creative partnerships, custom publishing and other special projects. These include Emmy and Oscar season Contenders reports, the Impact lists that annually chronicle the accomplishments of top industry achievers around the globe, the Billion Dollar series focused on major figures and top production locations and Hollywood’s New Leaders. Gaydos is a veteran at Variety and has been with the magazine since 2005.

People magazine will part ways with Jess Cagle March 31, who has announced he will step down as editor in chief of the magazine as well as his position as editorial director of the Entertainment Group. Cagle is a 32-year veteran of Time Inc. (now Meredith) and helped launch Entertainment Weekly in 1990. He has been the top editor at People since 2014 and has also worked at Time as senior editor and EW as editor.  

Emily Glazer has joined the political team of The Wall Street Journal as a reporter covering the 2020 presidential campaign. She focuses on the intersection of finance, business and politics. Glazer is a longtime WSJ reporter on the special reports group focusing on executive education. She has also written for Dow Jones covering markets and corporate finance, and writing about corporate news and personal finance.

The Washington Post has hired Matthew Hay Brown as Americas editor, effective March 11. This is a new role at the paper, and it is dedicated to expanding coverage of Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada. Hay Brown comes from USA Today where he most recently served as national enterprise reporter. He is also a former Caribbean correspondent and has reported from Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

Laura Gillespie is the new reporter covering restaurants and retail for the Houston Business Journal. She has been a freelancer since 2015 and has contributed to Houstonia Magazine. She was also previously an intern for the Houston Chronicle.

The Kharon Brief has hired Samuel Rubenfeld as editor. He comes from The Wall Street Journal, where he spent almost a decade reporting on issues of illicit finance with a special focus on sanctions, money laundering, foreign bribery, terrorism finance and whistleblowers. He wrote for WSJ’s Risk & Compliance Journal, and previously for the Corruption Currents blog, on

Victoria Ostrander is the new assistant editor for magazines at ALM, helping with the print, online and newsletter processes for The American Lawyer, The National Law Journal and Corporate Counsel. She has previously worked at Healthy Aging Magazine and as assistant editor on a pair of nursing journals.

WLS-AM news radio in Chicago has hired Jenniffer Weigel as co-host and traffic reporter of the “Mancow” morning show. She most recently worked for the Chicago Sun-Times as a director of community development and content contributor. Before that she was a podcast host for WGN-AM and a reporter for Tribune Publishing.

Stacy Rost and Jake Heaps have joined KIRO-AM sports radio’s “Seattle Sports at Night” as hosts and producers; the show is also hosted by Curtis Rogers. Rost has previously worked at CBS Radio and Bonneville International. Heaps is a former Seattle Seahawk and joined the station in 2018 as part-time host and weekly guest on the “Bob, Groz and Tom” midday show. They can be heard on-air weeknights 7- 9 p.m.
