Alexandra S. Levine has joined Politico as technology reporter and will write the Morning Tech newsletter. She replaces Cristiano Lima, who has written the newsletter since 2018, and now has shifted to covering Capitol Hill for Politico Pro Tech. Levine spent four years at The New York Times on the Metro desk and at the helm of the popular New York Today column, covering the city's breaking news, cultural happenings and eccentricities. She joined The Times in 2015 as a news assistant.
The New Yorker has named Leily Kleinbard managing editor, who succeeds outgoing managing editor Emily Greenhouse. For the past three years, Kleinbard has served as the magazine's A-issue editor, and has previously worked as associate editor for PEN America and written for The Atlantic.
Matthias Gafni has joined the San Francisco Chronicle as enterprise reporter covering investigative stories. He previously spent almost a decade as an investigative reporter at the Bay Area News Group and reported on a variety of subjects, including public safety, health, politics,education, environment and more.
The Democrat-Reporter in Alabama has tapped Elecia Dexter, an African-American woman, as publisher and editor, effective Feb. 21. The newspaper gained national attention in February after its then-publisher wrote an editorial calling the Ku Klux Klan to “night ride again.” Over the past ten years, Dexter has been a strategic leader with expertise in human resources, operations and change management.
Ramona Schindelheim has been promoted to editor in chief of WorkingNation, upped from executive producer. She is a seasoned journalists who has previously worked for CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, and ABC News as a financial journalist, producer, and senior manager. WorkingNation is a non-profit organization that uses multi-media reporting focusing on unemployment and the economy.
Westwood One has hired John Wordock as executive editor, podcasting, effective Feb. 15. He comes to the network from The Wall Street Journal, where he was executive producer, podcasts since 2015. Prior to joining the Journal, Wordock held positions at CBS MarketWatch, the Associated Press and Bloomberg TV.
Longtime Tampa morning team Chadd Thomas and Kristi Thomas have joined Entercom WDZH-FM in Detroit for mornings. The duo moved to the new station after two years anchoring mornings at WPBB-FM in Tampa, Florida; the station dropped the format in December 2018. Prior to that, they both spent 16 years at WWRM in Tampa.
