Slate has named Jared Hohlt editor in chief, effective April 1. He succeeds Julia Turner, who left in October 2018 to become deputy managing editor of the Los Angeles Times. Hohlt is a veteran New York magazine editor, who spent 18 years at the outlet and has served as editorial director and top editor on the print magazine. It is a Slate homecoming for Hohlt, who got his start at the outlet as an editorial assistant 20 years ago.
John McCormack has joined the National Review as Washington correspondent and a fellow at the National Review Institute. He covers politics in the capital and across the country. McCormack comes from The Weekly Standard, where he worked as a staff writer and deputy online editor.
New York Times Magazine has tapped Lovia Gyarkye as an associate editor on the Labs Team. She comes from The New York Times where she worked as a researcher on the Books Desk since 2017. Before that, she spent a year at The New Republic as a reporter/researcher.
Claire Stern is the new editor at Bergdorf Goodman, overseeing all print and digital assets, including BG Magazine, BG.com and the 5th/58th blog. She comes from a stint as the senior content writer at J.Crew, and before that spent five years at InStyle, most recently as associate editor. Stern has also interned at Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
Fatherly has hired Donna Freydkin as commerce editor. She is responsible for using search and demand data to assign product reviews and build out a robust content offering that further supports the growth of Fatherly. She also manages a database of freelance writers and an editorial calendar and deliver trend reports that supply actionable intelligence for the business. Prior to joining the team, Freydkin served as a commerce producer at NBC's Today.com, where she covered parenting, toy, and general interest commerce content.
Holly Bailey is the newest national politics reporter at The Washington Post and will cover the 2020 presidential election. She comes from Yahoo News, where she spent the last nine years as a national correspondent. She is also a former White House correspondent for Newsweek and the author of “The Mercy of the Sky,” her book published in May 2015.
Skift has recruited Faye Chiu is an assistant managing editor. She was previously at Conde Nast and served as a senior manager in the lifestyle division for two years. Chiu has also held editorial positions at Bon Appetit and Epicurious. Skift covers the travel, restaurant and wellness industries.
“The Tommy Show” with Kelly Collis and Tommy McFly has official relaunched Feb. 25, and now lives online as a live morning stream on the program’s newly launched website and as a show on The Tommy Show app. The show was previously on-air in the mornings on CBS radio WIAD-FM in Washington, D.C., with the same hosting duo, who had hosted the program for the past seven years. Jen Richer has also been tapped as a co-host and executive producer.
