CNN Business has announced two new staff appointments in Asia:
· Laura He has joined as a reporter and producer covering business and finance in Hong Kong. She was most recently a senior financial correspondent for the South China Morning Post, and before that worked for MarketWatch as an Asia correspondent.
· Jill Disis has relocated from New York to Hong Kong to become Asia editor. She was previously an editor in the NYC newsroom and joined CNN Business as breaking news reporter in 2016. Before that, she spent four years as a reporter for The Indianapolis Star.
Anne Barnard has returned to The New York Times newsroom as a reporter and part of the Metro team, where she covers the environmental beat and climate change. She spent the last year as an Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow at the Council of Foreign Relations, and before that spent six years as The Times’s Beirut bureau chief and led coverage of the war in Syria. Before The Times, Barnard covered local news for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Boston Globe.
Aaron Back is the new deputy editor for The Wall Street Journal's Heard on the Street column writing about U.S. banks, consumer goods and financial institutions. He was previously a columnist for Heard on The Street and joined The Journal in 2013 after spending several years at Dow Jones Newswires.
Texas Observer has hired Andrea Valdez as editor in chief. She comes from Wired.com, where she has been the editor since 2017. Before that she spent five years at Texas Monthly as deputy web editor. During that time, she launched two verticals and redesigned the website in 2013.
Katie Palmer has joined Quartz as science editor. She was most recently a Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University and has previously worked as a senior editor at Wired where she covered biotechnology, climate, physics and space. Before that, Palmer was an editorial intern at IEEE Spectrum and Discover magazine.
ALM Media has recruited Ingrid Tunberg as editorial coordinator for Real Estate Forum and GlobeSt.com, where she oversees the incoming nominations, assists with profile industry awards, and writes nominee profiles for print and digital publication. She was most recently a copy writer for Living Well New York and Lafayette before that.
WZGC-FM sports talk radio in Atlanta has named Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael hosts of the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “The Midday Show.” Bunker was most recently on-air in the evening hosting “The Bunker Mentality,” and has been with the station since 2016. McMichael is a former NFL player who has been hosting the weekend “College Game Time” show.
Daniel Soles, senior vice president and chief television content officer of Chicago’s WTTW-TV, will leave the station on June 28. He joined the staff in 1995 as broadcast manager and moved up to director of programming before he was named senior vice president and chief television content officer. Before WTTW, Soles was an assistant program manger at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
