The Associated Press has named Michael Tackett, an award-winning journalist, as deputy bureau chief in Washington, directing coverage of the White House, Congress and politics. Tackett joins the AP from The New York Times, where he has worked as a political reporter and deputy Washington editor. He previously served as Bloomberg News’ managing editor and Washington bureau chief, and as Washington bureau chief and political writer at the Chicago Tribune. He’s covered six presidential campaigns.
Scott Lucas is the new deputy editor of technology and business for BuzzFeed in San Francisco. He replaces Samantha Oltman, who left to become editor in chief of Recode. Lucas was most recently a freelance writer and his work has appeared in Politico, The Economist, and the Washington Post to name a few. He has also served as a senior editor for San Francisco Magazine and politics editor for the Las Vegas Sun.
Crain’s Detroit Business has promoted Chad Livengood to senior editor. He reports on issues affecting Detroit such as public affairs, business and the economy. Livengood was most recently a senior reporter for Crain’s and has been on staff since 2017. Prior to that, he spent five years at The Detroit News as capital reporter. He has also reported for the News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware, and Springfield News-Leader in Springfield, Missouri.
Christa Marshall has been named editor of Energywire, E&E News' publication covering the transformation of the energy sector. She previously reported on the Department of Energy, energy technologies and science policy for Greenwire, and prior to that was assistant deputy editor at Climatewire. Since joining E&E News in 2008, she has interviewed leaders like Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates and former Vice President Al Gore and has broken news on issues ranging from the Keystone XL pipeline fight to DOE funding. She formerly worked for The Denver Post and NPR.
The Athletic Sports Business, the new vertical of The Athletic subscription-only site which covers sports business, media, and sports law, has recruited Bill Shea as senior writer. He covers sports business and media for Detroit and the Midwest. Shea has spent the last 13 years at Crain’s Detroit Business as a reporter, enterprise editor and blogger, and has covered everything in sports business, including labor, contracts, stadium/arena construction, social media, broadcast/streaming media rights, e-sports, gender and race, politics, marketing and branding, tech, talent acquisition and deployment, and advanced analytics.
Sarah Jean Shelton has left Hearst Lifestyle Group after two years as the home editor for Redbook, Good Housekeeping, and Woman's Day magazines. She is now the market editor for Luxe. Interiors + Designs. Shelton has been with Hearst since 2016 when she joined as the home editor for Redbook, and has previously freelanced for Architectural Digest and Lonny, among others.
WBEZ-FM, the NPR radio station in Chicago has revised its midday lineup. Jerome McDonnell will shift to reporting on energy and environmental issues for the station. He has hosted “Worldview”, the reliable source for critical information on U.S. foreign policy and the climate science behind climate warming, for 25 years.
Jen Phillips has been promoted to weekday evening anchor of KXII-TV, the CBS/Fox-affiliated station in Sherman, Texas. She most recently anchored and reported weekends at the station and joined the staff in June 2017 as an anchor and reporter at the station’s bureau in Paris, Texas.
