Elena Bergeron has joined the Sports desk at The New York Times as an assistant editor. She comes from SB Nation, where she was the editor in chief and during her time there won an ASME “Ellie” for digital innovation for a wildly humorous and insightful look at the future of football. Before SB Nation, she was the founding editor of Triangle Offense, a basketball and lifestyle site, and before that served as a staff writer at ESPN: The Magazine.

The Washington Post has named Susannah George Afghanistan/Pakistan bureau chief. She will start work in the newsroom on Aug. 19 and will take up her duties in Afghanistan by mid-September. She is currently finishing up her duties as a reporter at the Associated Press, where she has covered U.S. intelligence agencies and national security since 2018. George has previously worked for NPR as a producer and editor on the Foreign desk.

Ashlyn Still will join the Graphics department at the Washington Post Aug. 12 as part of the elections team. She comes from the graphics team at Reuters in New York, where she has worked as a data visualization developer specializing in policy, politics and economics coverage. At Reuters, she spearheaded the graphics coverage leading up to the 2018 U.S. midterm elections. Before that, she spent three years as a news applications developer at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Capital Weather Gang has hired a deputy editor and a reporter:

·         Andrew Freedman has joined the blog as a deputy weather editor covering local, national and international weather and climate. He was previously a science editor at Axios and before that worked for Mashable as senior editor and reporter.

·         Matthew Cappucci is the new meteorologist and reporter. He is a Harvard graduate and began writing freelance articles for Capital Weather Gang when he was 18. He has written on weather, climate, astronomy, earthquakes, and more.

Charlotte Bickley and Sophie Bickley have joined The Daily Front Row as editors at large. The stylish sisters are behind the blog Yin 2My Yang, where they offer their personal style, travel adventures, and more. The due is no stranger to the fashion world – their father, Ian Bickley, is the president of Coach.

NBC Boston general manager Mike St. Peter will leave the station in 2020 and the company has announced that Chris Wayland will join the team as senior vice president and station manager of WBTS-TV, Telemundo Boston and NECN. Wayland will oversee our stations’ sales, finance, marketing, and digital departments. He will join the NBCUniversal’s Boston stations from WPIX-TV in New York where he worked as senior vice president, general manager. Prior to that, Wayland worked at Tribune Media as vice president of group operations.

Gary Brode will join KMGH-TV, the ABC station in Denver, Colorado, as a reporter in August. He was most recently a freelance reporter at WBZ-TV in Boston and before that he spent four years at WZVN-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, as weekend anchor and reporter.
