The Wall Street Journal has announced a couple of staff changes at its New York City and Houston offices:
· Josée Rose has been named the elections editor, working across the newsroom to coordinate all aspects of the paper’s 2020 election coverage. She begins in late August and will be based in New York. Rose is currently the global digital news editor for EMEA in the London bureau of The Journal. She joined the staff 17 years ago and has held an array of roles across print, wires and digital.
· Elizabeth Findell has joined The Journal as a reporter covering Texas out of the Houston bureau. She comes from the Austin American-Statesman where she spent three years as a reporter. Before that, she covered City Hall for The Dallas Morning News.
Tyler McCall has been named editor in chief of Fashionista, effective September 2019. She succeeds Alyssa Vingan-Klein, who will join Nylon as an editorial director. McCall is currently the deputy editor at Fashionista and has been on staff since 2016. Prior to that, she worked for Teen Vogue as the digital fashion editor.
Bloomberg News has hired Jordan Fabian as a White House correspondent, effective Aug. 12. He was most recently a White House correspondent for The Hill for three years and covered the Obama administration. Before that, he served as the political editor at Fusion, the ABC News/Univision joint venture.
Margaret Naczek will join the Milwaukee Business Journal Aug. 12 as a manufacturing and travel reporter. She comes from the USA Today Network and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel where she spent the last year as a sports reporter and video producer. Previously, she has freelanced for the Arizona Republic, the Milwaukee Catholic Herald and Cronkite News/Arizona PBS.
Seattle Magazine has promoted Rob Smith to editorial director focusing on strategic initiatives and digital presence of the outlet. He will remain editor in chief of Seattle Business, a position he has held since November 2018. Prior to that, he was a national retail reporter at CoStar News and spent two years as the editor in chief of the Puget Sound Business Journal before that.
PBS has announced two additions to the Cronkite School-based PBS NewsHour West:
· Stephanie Sy is the new anchor for PBS NewsHour West and a PBS NewsHour correspondent. She most recently served as anchor/correspondent at Yahoo News and for the past 15 years has served in anchor and correspondent capacities at CNN International, Al Jazeera America, ABC News, CBSN, and PBS NewsHour Weekend.
· Richard Coolidge will lead the editorial operation in Phoenix as senior producer of PBS NewsHour West. He has served as a senior content producer and managed station and partner editorial collaborations for NewsHour since April 2015. Before that he spent 26 years as a producer at ABC News.
Tommy Mattern has been promoted to operations manager of Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, Missouri, and its five stations cluster WARH-FM, WIL-FM, WXOS-FM, KPNT-FM, and KSHE-FM. He was previously the OM of WXOS-FM, KPNT-FM, and KSHE-FM since 2016 and has held the PD post at KPNT since 1998.
Alternative radio KNDD-FM in Seattle, Washington, has tapped Walter Flakus as an assistant program director and afternoon host, effective Aug. 6. He can be heard on-air weekday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Flakus comes from Cumulus WKQX-FM in Chicago where he spent the last seven years most recent as a music director.
