E.W. Scripps Company has hired Ash-har Quraishi as a national news correspondent, effective September 16. He previously worked as a correspondent for WTTW-TV’s “Chicago Tonight” and before that served as Midwest correspondent for Al Jazeera America and Islamabad bureau chief and correspondent for CNN.
Kara Carlson is the new reporter at Austin American-Statesman covering Austin's tech scene, software and startups. She was most recently a business reporting intern at the Dallas Morning News’s business desk and before that studies at the Walter Cronkite Innovation Lab at Arizona State University..
Town & Country has announced the addition of two veteran fashion journalists:
· Dania Lucero Ortiz has been hired as fashion and accessories director. She oversees the magazine’s fashion and accessories shoots and front of book shopping pages. Ortiz was most recently a contributing editor for Vogue Mexico and has previously served as the fashion director for Michael Kors. She has also served as fashion director at SELF, market and accessories director at Interview and senior market editor of Marie Claire and W.
· Jill Newman has been named contributing editor, jewelry and watches. In 2018, Newman spearheaded the launch of Muse by Robb Report and prior to that was Robb Report’s deputy editor, where she managed the style and jewelry coverage. Prior to that she was Robb Report’s executive editor for more than a decade.
Sports Business Daily has recruited Mark Burns as a staff writer covering the National Hockey League out of Washington, D.C. He previously spent several months at Morning Consult as a sports business reporter and before that served as the editor in chief of Sports Business Chronicle, which he founded in 2017. Burns has also written for USA Hockey, Forbes and SportsTechie.
Reporter Scott Trubey has moved to the investigations team of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He has been on staff since 2010 and most recently covered commercial real estate and economic development. Trubey has previously worked for the Atlanta Business Chronicle where he covered banking, finance, hospitality and airlines.
KTVX-TV, the ABC station in Salt Lake City, Utah, has hired Jerad Giottonini as a reporter. He comes from WHO-TV in Des Moines, Iowa, where he spent two yeas as a general assignment reporter and multimedia journalist. Before that he worked for KECI-TV in Western Montana.
Charlie Sokaitis is the new morning co-anchor at KTUU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a homecoming for Sokaitis, who worked at the station as a sports anchor between 2007 and 2015. Most recently, he spent five years at WGBA-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as a sports director.
