Sorayah Zahir is the new social media editor at The Wall Street Journal. She is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and most recently completed and internship at The Journal. Zahir has also completed a marketing and communications internship at the Texas Ballet Theater and served as a social media coordinator at the Allies in Youth.
Bloomberg has moved Sonali Basak to a new cross-platform position as a finance reporter within the broadcast group. She will focus on breaking news and finance, while honing her broadcast presence. Basak joined Bloomberg as an intern in 2014 and since has demonstrated a knack for breaking news. Most recently her focus was on the heart of Wall Street.
Mariam Fam is the new reporter covering Islam for the Associated Press Global Religion team, reporting from the Cairo bureau. She has spent the last decade reporting on the Middle East and North Africa for The Wall Street Journal, AP and Bloomberg News, and has also authored reports on religious communities and the many ways faith intersects with politics, culture, gender issues and conflict.
Fortune has hired Lance Lambert as an associate data editor focusing on creating data-driven newsletters. He spent the last two years as a data journalist at Realtor.com, and before that worked in the same capacity for Bloomberg.
Eric Kulisch has joined FreightWaves, a digital news startup focused on freight transportation and logistics, as a reporter covering the air cargo and logistics industries. He previously spent nearly two years as Washington reporter for Automotive News, where he wrote about government policy related to auto safety, emissions, trade and autonomous vehicles. He previously worked at American Shipper, which was acquired by FreightWaves this year.
WFTS-TV, the ABC station in Tampa, Florida, has welcomed Vanessa Araiza as a weekend morning anchor. She comes from WKMG-TV in Orlando, Florida, where she was a reporter/fill-in anchor. Prior to that, Araiza spent five years at Raycom Media.
Nick King has joined Meredith’s KPHO/KTVK in Phoenix, Arizona, as sports anchor and reporter. He spent the last six years in the same capacity at KMPH-TV in Fresno, California, and before that worked as weekend sports anchor and reporter for KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri.
