The Wall Street Journal has added a new reporter on its Markets team, and promoted an editor:
· Karen Langley has joined the paper as a reporter on the Markets team covering stocks. She recently finished her MBA degree from Columbia University and before that served as a reporting intern for Barron’s.
· Robert Barba is the new spot news editor for the Americas at Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal. He was most recently the interim spot news chief for 16 months and before that worked for Bankrate and American Banker.
Ellen Gilmer has joined Bloomberg Environment as a reporter covering environmental law issues. She comes from E&E News where she most recently served as the legal editor and covered environmental litigation, federal courts, the Justice Department and judicial nominations. She joined E&E in 2010.
Debtwire has hired Madeline Shi as a reporter covering distressed corporate debt and restructuring in the North America industrials space. She graduated from New York University’s Business and Economic Reporting program in 2019 and was a finance intern at Business Insider and CoinDesk, covering financial technologies, with a focus on cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology. Previously, Shi was also a reporter at LevFin Insights covering distressed credit.
Ashley Stewart will join Business Insider Oct. 14 as senior tech reporter covering Amazon and Microsoft out of Seattle. She was most recently a tech reporter at the Puget Sound Business Journal, a position she has held since 2015. Before that Stewart worked as a Statehouse reporter at OPB in Salem, Oregon.
The Washington Post will welcome Miriam Berger as a staff writer Oct. 7. She will be part of Foreign’s newsroom-based team. Berger has spent the last several years as a freelancer and was most recently based in Jerusalem. She has written for The Post and other publications, including BuzzFeed News, Reuters, the Associated Press and The New York Times. She began her career as a full-time reporter for BuzzFeed News in New York.
Victoria Taylor has been named the first-ever community editor at LinkedIn. She was most recently the director of communications and culture at Cake Co., and prior to that spent three years at WeWork as a director, digital community. Taylor has also previously served as director of communications at Reddit.
WHUR-FM radio in Washington, D.C., has tapped radio veteran Al Payne as program director. He comes from KMJK-FM in Kansas City, Missouri, where he spent the past year as a PD. In the past 15 years Payne has also served as a PD at WMGC-FM in Detroit, WERQ-FM / WWIN-FM/AM / WOBL-AM cluster in Baltimore, Maryland, and WKYS-FM in D.C.
Jennifer Dahl-Lewis has joined CBS-owned KPHO-TV/KTVK-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, as executive director of news. She was most recently the interim VP of enrollment management at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, and before that served as the West Coast Group news director at Sinclair Broadcasting. Dahl-Lewis has also worked as news director at KUTV in Salt Lake City.
ABC’s WLS-TV in Chicago has promoted Matt Knutson to director of content innovation. He was previously the executive producer of “Windy City Live,” WLS-TV’s morning talk show. Knutson joined the station in 2011 after six years at Tribune Media, where he worked as a producer at CLTV and as a supervising producer on “Chicago’s Best.” He helped launch “Windy City Live” as a line producer in 2011 and has been the executive producer since 2015.
