The Wall Street Journal has welcomed Chris Wellisz as economics news editor based in Washington. He comes from the International Monetary Fund where he wrote, assigned, and edited articles for Finance & Development, the IMF's publication covering the global economy, climate change, technology, inequality, trade, and financial inclusion. Prior to that, Wellisz spent 15 years at Bloomberg as editor and team leader, and before that served as Warsaw bureau chief for Dow Jones for six years.
Vivian Wang will join the China team of The New York Times in February 2020 as Beijing-based correspondent. She is currently a reporter on the Metro desk and has been on staff since 2017 when she joined The Times as a James Reston Reporting Fellow. Wang previously interned at The Boston Globe and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
NBC News has recruited Sam Brock as a Miami-based correspondent. He reports for NBC News and MSNBC, as well as across the network’s digital platforms. Brock comes from KNTV, the NBC station in San Jose, California, where he spent the past seven years mostly as a reporter and morning news anchor. Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, Brock served as 5 p.m. anchor and political reporter for WTVR in Richmond, Virginia.
Anthony Amey has joined Black News Channel as the prime-time sports anchor. He comes from WSB-TV in Atlanta where he spent almost a decade as sports anchor/reporter. BNC is the newly launched 24/7 multi-platform news and information channel created to feature culturally specific content for African Americans.
Block Club Chicago, the hyper-local site covering all Chicago neighborhoods, has recruited Joe Ward as a reporter covering the Uptown and Rogers Park neighborhoods. He was most recently a reporter for The Real Deal Chicago and has previously reported for the now-defunct DNAInfo site.
Stephen Cooper has joined Law360 as senior tax correspondent and will cover congressional tax policy. He comes from Tax Notes, where he worked as a senior reporter. Cooper has also covered congressional tax policy for Wolters Kluwer and healthcare for the Washington Business Journal and the Washington Times newspaper.
The Worcester Business Journal has hired Thomas Grillo as a staff writer to cover real estate and manufacturing industries. He also serves as WBJ’s primary digital reporter, tasked with compiling and editing The WBJ Daily Report and the coordinating WBJ’s social media campaigns. Grillo was most recently a reporter for The Daily Item and has previously served as a real estate editor for the Boston Business Journal, commercial real estate reporter for the Boston Herald, and a longtime correspondent for the Boston Globe.
Christin Ayers is the new Tacoma bureau chief for KING-TV, the NBC-affiliated station in Seattle. She previously spent eight years at KPIX-TV in San Francisco as a general assignment reporter and before that worked at KMGH-TV in Denver, Colorado for two years.
Fox-owned WOFL-TV in Orlando, Florida has welcomed Jessica Albert as a reporter. She was previously a one-person bureau reporter for WCTI-TV’s Jacksonville, North Carolina bureau and enterprised, shot, wrote and edited stories daily.
