Business Insider has hired two new reporters who will both start in early August:
The Chicago Sun-Times will welcome back Mary Mitchell in August as a columnist; she semiretired from the paper a year ago. Mitchell will write two columns a week and will also serve as the director of newsroom culture and community engagement. Back in July 2019, she stepped down after 29 years at the paper and was writing occasionally.
The Washington Post has announced two new staff updates:
Alvin Patrick has been promoted to executive producer of the newly launched Race and Culture Unit at CBS Television Network. He has been with CBS since 2012 and has since produced reports for the network’s major news franchises—60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes Sports for Showtime, CBS This Morning and others. Most recently, Patrick served as senior producer. According to the network, "CBS News Race and Culture Unit will lead new initiatives on race and culture reporting and serve as a place where any staffer can pitch relevant and compelling stories."
Fox News has promoted Charles Watson to Atlanta-based correspondent. He was most recently a multimedia reporter for Fox News Channel out of Jackson, Mississippi, a position he has held since 2018. Prior to that, Watson worked as a general assignment and multimedia reporter for independent television station WRNN-TV’s FiOS1 News in New York.
Johnny Green is the new vice president of news services at CBS News and will oversee Newspath CBS’ affiliate newsgathering service. He begins his duties on August 10 and succeeds Tim Gaughan, who left CBS News earlier this year. Green spent the past five years running Boston’s CBS station WBZ-TV as VP and news director. Prior to that, he was an executive producer at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia.
