MSNBC has named Joy Reid evening anchor of network’s most important news hour, the 7 p.m. hour that was vacated by longtime host Chris Matthews in early March. Reid will debut her new show, “The ReidOut,” on July 20, and will become the only Black woman to host a daily prime-time cable news program.  She will be based in Washington, D.C. Reid joined MSNBC as a contributor in 2011 and hosted a daily show called “The Reid Report” that was canceled in February 2015. Since 2016 she has hosted the two-hour-long weekend show “AM Joy” on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Nicki Jhabvala will join the Washington Post's Sports Desk July 13 to cover the Washington Redskins.  She comes from The Athletic, where she has covered the Denver Broncos for the past two seasons. Before that, Jhabvala spent three years as the Broncos beat writer for the Denver Post, and also covered the NFL, league owners’ meetings and Super Bowls. 

CALMatters has hired Lauren Hepler as a reporter covering California state government with a focus on the economy, including jobs, cities and the state budget. She was previously a reporter for Protocol and covered work and life in Silicon Valley. Helper has also freelanced and written about housing, jobs and the environment for The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Los Angeles Times.  

David Yaffe-Bellany has joined Bloomberg News as Washington legal reporter covering federal courts in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland. He comes from The New York Times where he worked as a business reporter and covered the food industry and general business news as the David Carr fellow. Yaffe-Bellany has also freelanced for The Atlantic, Columbia Journalism Review and Washington Post.

Law360 has tapped Amanda Ottaway as senior employment reporter. She spent the last three years as a reporter at Courthouse News and spent almost four years as a fellow at the International Women's Media Foundation. Her work at the foundation was published in the Christian Science Monitor and VICE.

Binnie Media, the largest locally owned media company in New England, has promoted Heath Cole to VP of radio programming. He replaces Stan Bennett who has left the stations after 25 years. Cole joined the company in 2019 and most recently served as general manager.

Jason McCollim has shifted to SVP of programming for iHeartMedia Austin/San Antonio market. He held the same position at the company’s Colorado Springs/Pueblo group since 2015, and before that spent 15 years as PD for KKZX-FM/KQNT-FM in Spokane, Washington.

WGN-TV in Chicago will bid farewell to longtime reporter Courtney Gousman, who will  join WEWS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland, as weekday evening news anchor. Her last day at the WGN will be July 30. Gousman joined the station in 2014 from CBS-owned WBBM-TV, where she was a per diem reporter.
