Media Moves US,
James Hibbert will return to The Hollywood Reporter March 1 as writer at large. He is an award-winning journalist and screenwriter who has spent the past decade at Entertainment Weekly as editor at large. Before that, Hibbert was the TV editor at The Hollywood Reporter and before that worked for Television Week.
Hearst has promoted Jessica Roy to digital director of ELLE. She was most recently the site's deputy editor and joined ELLE Online in 2018 after several years as a writer and editor for The Cut and Intelligencer. Roy has also previously served as newsfeed editor for Time.com and the betabeat editor for The New York Observer.
Clifford J. Levy has been elevated to deputy managing editor of The New York Times. The two-time Pulitzer winner has led the Metro desk since 2018. Prior to that, Levy was a deputy managing editor overseeing The Times’s online platforms and had worked as a Moscow bureau chief and an investigative reporter. He has been at The Times since 2000.
TIME has hired John Simons as executive editor. He starts March 1 and will oversee business, technology and nation coverage. He comes from The Wall Street Journal where he was most recently deputy health and science editor and bureau chief for health business. Prior to that, he was based in the WSJ’s London bureau guiding energy coverage.
The New York Times has promoted an editor in Opinion, hired a new writer at The New York Times Magazine, and welcomed a new assistant editor in Sports:
Richard A. Green has been named executive editor of The Press Democrat in California, and chief content officer of its parent company, Sonoma Media Investments. He will oversee coverage and staff at the 163-year-old daily newspaper and six other SMI publications. He comes from Gannett, where he was most recently the editor of the Courier Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Midwest regional editor for USA Today Network. Before that, Green was the top editor at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs; The Des Moines Register in Iowa, and The Record and northjersey.com in Bergen County, New Jersey. He also served as a regional president and publisher at The Register and The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Variety has promoted Jem Aswad to deputy music editor, upped from senior music editor. He has been on staff for four years and launched Variety's music section with executive music editor Shirley Halperin in April 2017. He joined from Billboard and before that has held editorial roles at MTV News, Spin, Time Out New York and CMJ.
New York magazine has announced two promotions:
Keith Poole will join the New York Post as group editor in chief in March. He will be responsible for overseeing the New York Post, the Post Digital Network (NYPost.com, PageSix.com, and Decider.com), as well as apps and social media. Poole is currently wrapping up his duties as deputy editor in chief of The Sun in London, a position he has held since February 2020. Prior to that, Poole was the digital editor of the paper and before that spent several years at The Daily Mail.
POLITICO has named its new Playbook team, tasked with breaking political news, setting the agenda for the political day and days ahead, and providing a dose of insider glimpses about the power players in Washington. Playbook 3.0 will be the insider’s essential guide to the Biden presidency and how Washington and the GOP respond after Donald Trump departs office. The new Playbook co-authoring team includes:
Fox Business Network has welcomed Lydia Hu as a correspondent. She was most recently an investigative reporter at Spectrum News NY1. She has also anchored the "Around the Boroughs' segments for the network and served as a business anchor for NY1's finance platform, Money. Prior to her work in New York, Hu was as an investigative reporter and weekend evening anchor at WRBC-TV in Birmingham, Alabama.
Troy Wolverton is the new managing editor of Silicon Valley Business Journal and oversees commercial real estate, tech, venture capital, startups and small business. He comes from Business Insider where he served as senior tech correspondent. Prior to that, Wolverton spent more than a decade at The Mercury News.
CFO Journal, the chief financial officer news arm of The Wall Street Journal, has announced a promotion and a new hire:
Business Insider has tapped Michael Haley as a VC/startups reporter. He comes from Dow Jones where he has been a research editor since 2018. Haley has also served as a reporter of Dow Jones's he Risk & Compliance team and before that contributed to Forbes and its Crypto & Blockchain section.
E&E News reporter Maxine Joselow now covers climate law. She most recently covered transportation for Greenwire and Climatewire, and has been on staff since 2017 when she joined as an intern. Joselow has also contributed to Forbes, the Daily Beast, Scientific American, and other publications.
Sara Guaglione has joined Digiday as media reporter. She spent the past six years at Publisher's Daily as MediaPost reporter and covered digital publishing, media and advertising. Guaglione has also previously worked at ISchoolGuide and KpopStarz as a reporter and editor.
The Post Crescent, the daily newspaper in Appleton, Wisconsin, has welcomed Bradley Star as a business reporter. He writes The Buzz column, covering local retail, restaurants, and consumer service businesses in the Fox Cities. Star was most recently a producer at Gannett and before that served as the press box and media manager for Beloit Professional Baseball, Inc.
Sue Herera, one of the founding members of CNBC, has scaled back her duties at the network and is now anchor-at-large. She no longer has day-to-day responsibilities. Herera helped launch CNBC in 1089, and has since anchored many programs, including "Power Lunch" (2003 – 2015) and "Business Center," CNBC’s first daily program broadcast from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, as well as "Nightly Business Report," the evening program produced by CNBC for public television.
NPR has signed Fernando Pizarro as supervising editor for 'Morning Edition." He spent the past two decades at Univision, most recently as Washington correspondent covering politics, Congress, and the federal government. Pizarro is also an adjunct professorial lecturer at the American University in Washington, D.C.
Fox News has named Emily Compagno the new co-host of “Outnumbered,” the 12 p.m. ET panel show. She has appeared as a co-host on “Outnumbered” and “The Five,” another ensemble show on the network, during her time as a contributor. Compagno also hosts a show on Fox News Media’s subscription service, Fox Nation, in addition to being an attorney.
WLS-AM radio in Chicago has promoted Nick Gale to news director. He will continue to serve as the station's morning news anchor, a position he has held since 2010. Gale is an award-winning broadcast journalist who has been behind the microphone since 1994. He worked as news director at a five-station cluster in LaSalle - Peru and later as a reporter and anchor in Jacksonville, Florida at WOKV-AM. Later, he spent six years with the Illinois Radio Network covering state government for 50 affiliates.
Sarahbeth Ackerman will join WPTZ-TV, the NBC station in the Plattsburgh, New York—Burlington, Vermont. market, as a morning anchor. She starts Feb. 18. Ackerman was most recently a reporter and fill-in traffic anchor at WFTV-TV in Orlando.
