Condé Nast has appointed Tchesmeni Leonard senior fashion editor for Allure and Glamour. In her new role, Tchesmeni will oversee the fashion direction as well as the market across the two titles. She has previously served as associate fashion editor for NET-A-PORTER's digital magazine The Edit and has also served as fashion editor and in-house stylist for the fashion brand Alice + Olivia.
CNN Underscored has named Emily McNutt senior travel editor. In her new role, she will build out the site's coverage in the travel space, from tips on how to be a better traveler to how to save money when traveling. McNutt was previously the global news editor at The Points Guy.
The New York Timed has added to staff editors for Storylines:
- Kyle Betts joins the staff from the Chicago Tribune, where he was an audience editor and managed strategies for the home page, social accounts, alerts, newsletters and SEO. He was also an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
- Ilaria Parogni has joined the Storylines team after spending the past year as a senior editor for the NYT Licensing Group, which she joined in 2016 as a fact-checking intern. Most recently, she was a senior editor on the Syndicate team.
Greta Haggeness has been promoted to senior editor at PureWow, upped from news and entertainment editor. She has been at the outlet since 2017, when she joined as editorial assistant. She has also served as assistant editor and associate editor at PureWow and has previously also worked at Simply Stylist and HelloGiggles.
BuzzFeed has hired Emily Baker-White as San Francisco-based senior tech reporter. She comes to BuzzFeed from Spotify where she was a senior policy manager for a year. Before that, she worked at Facebook as product policy associate manager.
The Courier Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, has hired Krista Johnson as breaking news reporter. She comes to the paper from Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama, where she was an education reporter for three years. Jonson has also previously reported for the San Angelo Standard-Times and The Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism Watch.
Aaron Wiener has joined The Washington Post as an assignment editor in Metro. He was previously a senior editor at Mother Jones and oversaw a team responsible for the magazine’s highest-profile investigative stories and feature projects. Wiener was also previously a lead writer at the Economist.
Levi Pulkkinen is the new assistant business editor at the Seattle Times. He spent the past three years as a freelancer and his reporting has appeared in U.S. News & World Report, The Guardian, The Hechinger Report and other publications. Before that, Pulkkinen spent 11 years at SeattlePl.
Law360 has welcomed Humberto J. Rocha as a reporter covering energy, finance, and the environment in Texas, Illinois, and Georgia. He is also a research analyst at Trust Lab. Before that, Rocha wrote a weekly column for Uni2 Noticias, "The View from Great Britain", on stories and post-Brexit Europe.
Lars Dolder has joined the News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, as a business reporter. He covers retail and main street businesses. Dolder was previously a staff writer at the News & Record in Chatham, North Carolina and also write the business column “Enterprising Chatham.”
Jael Holzman is the new reporter at E&E News covering mining. She comes from S&P Global Market Intelligence where she covers mining and metals for two years. Holzman has also previously worked at CQ Roll Call as an energy and environment reporter.
Quartz has added two reporters to its newsroom:
- Adario Strange is the new media and entertainment reporter. He comes to Quartz from Next Reality, a site focused on augmented and virtual reality, where he was the lead editor. Previously he was a reporter and weekend editor at Mashable, where he covered tech, media, and entertainment.
- Nathan DiCamillo is the new economics reporter based in New York. He comes to Quartz from CoinDesk, where he was a banking and economics reporter and ran news investigations into crypto-lending startups. Previously he covered fintech and credit unions at American Banker, and he has also worked as a freelancer for Gay City News and The Capital Gazette.
The Miami Herald will welcome Paul Bomberger as business editor at the end of November. He is currently wrapping up his duties as the business and metro editor at The Press-Democrat in Santa Rosa, California, a position he has held for three years. Prior to that, Bomberger served as an assistant metro editor at the Houston Chronicle and an assistant business editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Jacob Kirn has been promoted to managing editor of the St. Louis Business Journal. He spent the past six years at the digital editor of the Journal and has been on staff since 2013. Before that, Kirn was the assistant city editor for the Columbia Missourian.
Business North Carolina has tapped Jennings Cool as an associate editor a year after she started as a contributing writer at the magazine. Cool has also previously contributed to SouthPark Magazine and The Charlotte Observer.
Jason Nelson has joined Decrypt Media as a reporter covering cryptocurrencies, bitcoin, and DeFi. He has been a contributor to the outlet since mid-2020 and covered breaking news in technology and decentralized finance. Nelson has also previously worked for SmartFi and AT&T.
NPR has hired Nick Charles as chief culture editor. Most recently he served as the managing director at Word in Black, a collaborative of 10 Black owned media. He was also editor in chief at AOL Black Voices and then VP digital content at BET.com.
Greg Coy has joined WJCL-TV, the ABC affiliate in Savannah, Georgia, as an investigative reporter and evening co-anchor. He will co-anchor the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts alongside Shannon Royster. Coy comes to the station from WHBG-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was an investigative reporter and weekend evening anchor. He’s also worked at WFSB-TV in Hartford, Connecticut, Cable News 8 in Philadelphia and WCVB-TV in Boston.
Univision Chicago has named Luis Felipe Godinez vice president of news, replacing Teri Arvesu, who left the station in September. He starts Nov. 1. Felipe Godinez was most recently the news director at Univision Sacramento, a position he's held since early 2020. Before that, he was an assistant news director and executive producer at Univision San Francisco.
Kristine Strain has been named news director of CBS News and Television Stations’ local businesses in Denver, including KCNC-TV, CBSN Denver and CBSDenver.com. She has been the assistant news director at KCNC since 2004, and started working at the station as an executive producer in 2000. Before that, Strain has worked at WITI-TV in Milwaukee, Wis., WCCO-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul, KMBC-TV and WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Mo.
Brittany Aliff Burtscher has returned to KRJH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as news director. She was previously an executive producer at KTVK/KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, and has also served as assistant news director at KRJH-TV prior to her departure in 2019.
