Travel + Leisure has hired Timothy Latterner as senior editor. He was previously a design editor at Domino and before that served as regional news editor for Architectural Digest. Latterner has also worked as culture editor at Haute Living, Gotham, and Hamptons Magazine. As a freelancer, he has contributed to GQ, Conde Nast Traveler, Vice, the Evening Standard (UK), Martha Stewart Living, Apartment Therapy, and other publications.
Mark Leibovich will join The Atlantic as a staff writer in the spring. He will join the magazine from The New York Times and The New York Times Magazine, where he spent 15 years as a reporter and profile writer, and most recently as chief national correspondent. Before joining The New York Times in 2006, Leibovich spent a decade at The Washington Post, including a stint as a political correspondent for the Style section. He had previously worked for the Post’s Business section and at The San Jose Mercury News, where he covered Silicon Valley. Leibovich is also a contributing political analyst for NBC and MSNBC.
PublicSource, has tapped Emma Folts as a higher education reporter. She will collaborate with Open Campus Media, a nonprofit newsroom focused on local higher education coverage. Folts was most recently a senior staff writer at The Daily Orange, the independent student newspaper of Syracuse University. PublicSource is a nonprofit focusing on facts & transparency for Pittsburgh-area residents.
Caitlin Kelly has been promoted to features editor at Wired, upped from senior editor. She assigns and edits longform features for the print magazine and the website. Prior to joining Wired in 2018, Kelly spent three years at Vice Media as a senior features editor and managing editor for Vice Sports. Before that, she was an editor for The New Yorker's Sporting Scene blog for two years.
Dotdash has recruited Jane Kim as associate editor at The Spruce and MyDomaine. Most recently, she was an editor at The Faculty Student Association at Stony Brook University, and before that completed a marketing internship at MYK Silk. Kim has also been a writer and editor for digital publications like The Odyssey Online and Trill! Magazine.
Ebony magazine has promoted Savannah Taylor to assistant editor. She spent the past year as the magazine's content and marketing coordinator, and a freelance editorial writer. Prior to that, Taylor interned at Noire Management, Public Records, and MassMutual Financial Group.
Fatima Hussein has joined the Associated Press in Washington, D.C., as a reporter covering the Treasury Department. She previously covered worker safety and environmental law for Bloomberg Law and Bloomberg Environment. Before that, Hussein worked for the Indianapolis Start as a legal affairs reporter and the Cincinnati Enquirer as a workplace reporter.
Axios has hired Kerry Flynn as Media Deals reporter. She will co-lead the upcoming Media Deals newsletter covering telecom, media and technology. Flynn comes to Axios from CNN Business, where she spent the past two years as a media reporter. Before that, she reported for Digiday, Mashable, The International Business Times, and HuffPost.
Tech site dot.LA has tapped Rey Mashayekhi as the managing editor for news. He covers news and trends in the tech and startup scene across Los Angeles and Southern California. Mashayekhi spent the past three years at Fortune as a finance reporter and covered news and trends related to business, finance, tech, politics, and policy for Fortune's website and print magazine. He has also previously reported for the Commercial Observer, Living LIC, and The Real Deal.
The Houston Chronicle has hired Marissa Luck as senior reporter covering business and real estate in Houston. She also produces the Chronicle's real estate podcast, "Looped In." This is her second stint at the paper; she was an energy reporter between 2018 and 2019. Luck was most recently a reporter at CoStar News.
The Wall Street Journal reporter Robbie Whelan will start covering Walt Disney Co. and Hollywood studios Jan. 18. He has been a reporter at The Journal since 2010 and has covered logistics, the supply-chain industry, and commercial real estate. Most recently, he was a reporter based in Mexico City and covered business, economics, politics, crime and violence, migration, and culture in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
The Washington Post has tapped Hadley Green as a breaking news editor in the Video department. She was previously and intern on the Metro desk and during that time collaborated with every part of Video. Green has also been a freelance photo journalists and gas contributed to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Oxfam America, and WBUR.
Jess Lander has joined the San Francisco Chronicle as a wine reporter. She is a seasoned journalist with many years of experience covering wine and will be based in Napa Valley covering the dat-to-day news in the region. Lander has covered wine, food, travel, beer, and sports as a freelancer since 2014 and her work has appeared in Wine Enthusiast, Decanter, Wine Business Monthly, VinePair and SevenFifty Daily.
Variety has named Zack Sharf digital news director. He joins the publication from IndieWire, where he spent seven years in a variety of roles, including news editor focusing on news writing, social media growth, traffic building and editorial strategy.
Alex Willemyns is the new geopolitics editor at Morning Consult. He was most recently an editor at Zenger News in Washington and has also worked as a freelance writer covering Southeast Asia. Willemyns has also been an editor at the Cambodian Journalists Alliance Association, and a politics editor at the Phnom Penh Post in Cambodia.
Forbes has hired Bob Ivry as execute editor of enterprise. He is a longtime business journalist and spent the past 15 years at Bloomberg News as investigative reporter and senior editor. Before that, Ivry spent a decade at The Record in New Jersey.
Benjamin Din is the newest writer at NerdWallet and covers personal finance. He joins the outlet from Politico, where he was a technology reporter and writer of the Morning Tech newsletter. Prior to that, Din was a researcher at NBC Sports, a communications consultant at Bibles of America, and a reporting intern at Bloomberg.
Ad Age has promoted Jeanine Poggi to editor, upped from assistant managing editor. She has been at the outlet since 2018, when she joined the staff as a senior editor of media and technology. Before that, Poggi worked for TheStreet.com as a staff reporter, a fashion reporter for Forbes.com, and a financial reporter at Women's Wear Daily.
Brandon J. Call has returned to D CEO this time as the executive editor. He was the magazine's managing editor between 2018 and 2020. In his new role, Call will focus on story development and editing and oversee D CEO’s commercial real estate platform, which includes a daily news site, weekly newsletter, print edition features, industry columns, and the magazine’s Real Estate Annual. Prior to initially joining D CEO, Call was data editor for the Dallas Business Journal and a research director at Albuquerque Business First before that.
E&E News has promoted Edward Klump to deputy editor of Energywire. He was previously a reporter and has been at E&E News since 2014. Prior to that, Klump was an energy reporter at Bloomberg News, where he worked for more than seven years. Before that, he was a business reporter at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Amanda Kolson Hurley will join Bloomberg Green as an editor. She was most recently a senior editor at Bloomberg Businessweek for two years, and before that spent three years at CityLab as an editor. Kolson Hurley has also contributed to Next City, Foreign Policy, The Washington Post and more.
WNYC New York Public Radio has hired two editors:
- Steve Smith will join the staff on Jan. 24 as culture & art editor. He comes to WNYC from NPR, where he was a senior editor on the Arts, Culture and Books desk. Before that, Smith spent 13 years as a music editor at Time Out New York, and for more than half that time doubled as a classical music critic for The New York Times. He joined the Boston Globe as an assistant arts editor, covering museums and galleries in addition to music, and then moved back to New York City to establish National Sawdust Log, a digital arts publication embedded within the Williamsburg concert venue and arts incubator National Sawdust. Smith is also a freelance contributor for The New Yorker.
- Ann Givens will join WNYC as public safety editor. She has two decades of experience covering public safety in New York for print, digital and broadcast news outlets. She comes to WNYC from The Trace, a nonprofit news outlet dedicated to covering guns and gun violence in America. She also writes a monthly profile series called Ricochet about people whose lives have been touched by guns. Prior to that, she was an investigative producer at NBC New York, and also spent more than a decade at Newsday.
KULX-TV and KTMW-TV, the Telemundo stations in Utah, have tapped Luis F. Prado as multimedia journalist. He worked as a news correspondent in Miami from 2014 to 2021 and was an anchor and reporter for TC Television in Ecuador before that.
Brianna Cook has been promoted to news director at ABC's KAAL-TV in Rochester, Minnesota, upped from a morning news anchor/reporter. She replaces Craig Hume, who has been the news director for two years. Cook has been at the station since 2009.
