Caity Weaver has joined The New York Times Magazine as a staff writer. She has been a Style reporter for The New York Times since 2018 and has regularly contributed to the magazine as well. Before that, Weaver reported for GQ where she wrote many celebrities cover pieces, including profiles of Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Dwayne Johnson, and Cardi B.

Vulture has named Anusha Praturu managing editor, the first such position at the site. She oversees the Vulture's various operations and increase coordination with other departments in New York Magazine and Vox Media. Praturu comes to the site from Peacock TV, where she was a senior manager of marketing analytics with a focus on growth strategy and business development. Prior to Peacock, she held roles at NBCUniversal and Comcast.

Laura Bennett will join the staff of The Atlantic later in February as a senior editor focusing on the magazine's feature writing. She was most recently Slate’s editorial director, where she has overseen many of the site’s biggest reporting projects, several of which have been nominated for National Magazine Awards. Previously, Bennett was the culture editor at Salon and a staff writer for The New Republic.

The Washington Post has announced that Souad Mekhennet has taken on an expanded role as an international security correspondent working with the national security and foreign desks. She has been doing similar work since she joined the national security team in 2017 and before that as a longtime contributor, whose first reporting for The Post was in Germany in the months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. 

Kathryn Lundstrom has been promoted to sustainability editor for Adweek. She has been a sustainability report for the outlet for the past year and has been on staff since 2019, when she joined as breaking news reporter. Before that, Lundstrom was a writer for The Donut.

Harper's Bazaar has welcomed two top editors in the news department:

  • Rachel Tashjian has joined the magazine as fashion news director. She spent the past three years at GQ as the title's first fashion critic. Before that, Tashjian was a deputy editor at Garage Magazine and a contributing style editor at VF.com before that.
  • Rosa Sanchez will join Harper's Bazaar on Feb. 14 as senior news editor. She comes to the magazine from ABC News, where she was news editor since April 2020. As a freelance writer, Sanchez has contributed to Rolling Stone, Teen Vogue, Elle, The Hollywood Reporter, NY Daily News, and others.

Ashley Rodriguez has been promoted to media editor at Insider, covering the TV industry. She has been a senior reporter at Business Insider since 2019 reporting on the future of TV, and before that worked for Quartz as a media reporter. Rodriguez has also covered retail and finance for AdAge.

Morning Brew has tapped Kristen Parisi as HR/workplace reporter writing the HR Brew newsletter, which comes out twice a week and covers the field of HR. She was most recently a staff writer at Big Valley Marketing and wrote on supply chain, future of work, fintech and other topics for over a year. Parisi has also contributed to PR Week and Today.com as a freelance writer.

Curbed has welcomed a news writer and an editor:

  • Clio Chang has joined as a news writer covering New York City’s real estate-built environment and the people and forces that shape it. Most recently, Chang was a freelance writer writing features, essays, and book reviews for The New York Times Magazine, The California Sunday Magazine, Jezebel, The Nation, Columbia Journalism Review, Elle, and more. Before that, she was senior staff writer at Vice Media, and has also held roles at Gizmodo Media and The New Republic.
  • Katie McDonough has joined Curbed as senior editor and works across print and digital, editing daily news stories and features about architecture, design, New York City real estate, and urbanism. She was most recently a deputy editor at The New Republic, and prior to that she was senior editor at Jezebel, where she oversaw the site’s political coverage.

The Associated Press has added three investigative journalists to its Global Investigations Team:

  • Helen Wieffering has joined the team as a Washington, D.C.-based, full-time reporter after spending the past year as a Roy Howard Fellow. Prior to that, she has interned at the Arizona Capitol Times and The Arizona Republic.
  • Sarah El Deeb, a longtime AP reporter who has been at the company fir more than 20 years, has joined the team as a reporter based in Beirut, Lebanon. El Deeb joined the AP in the summer of 2000 and moved to the Palestinian territories and Israel in 2005 to cover Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.
  • Grace Ekpu has joined the team as a reporter based in Lagos, Nigeria. She was previously a senior multimedia journalist with the BBC covering West Africa, where she reported on a variety of issues. Ekpu is also a documentary photographer and filmmaker. 

Emma Childs has been upped to a fashion writer at The Zoe Report. She will write feature pieces, trend reports, and think pieces that examine how cultural movements are reflected in fashion. Childs has been at the title since February 2021 and has since served as fashion news writer covering the celebrity and industry news beat.

The Los Angeles Times has announced several editorial staff updates:

  • Brittany Levine Beckman has joined the paper as features editor, overseeing the lifestyle and West Coast experiences team. Previously, she was managing editor at Mashable, where she coordinated daily operations, and before that she was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times Community News.
  • Terry Tang has been named editor of the Los Angeles Times editorial page, overseeing the editorial board and the Op-Ed and Sunday Opinion sections. She has been the Sunday Opinion editor since December 2020 and joined the staff in 2019 as a deputy Op-Ed editor. Prior to that, Tang spent 20 years at The New York Times.
  • Michelle Woo has joined the paper as West Coast experiences editor. In her new role, Woo will oversee the West Coast experiences team — formerly known as the travel team. She was most recently a senior editor at Medium and the editor in chief of Forge, Medium's publication for personal development. Before that, Woo was a parenting editor ay Lifehacker.

Ashley Bethard has been named editor of the Dayton Daily News and chief content officer for Cox First Media. She has been at the company since 2012 and launched the website Dayton.com; she has led the Dayton Daily News’ digital news team since 2020. Before joining Cox First Media, Bethard was an editor and brand manager for Funcoast Magazine.

Fortune magazine has announced multiple promotions and new hires amidst editorial restructures:

  • Sheryl Estrada has been promoted to senior reporter, upped from senior writer of CFO Daily. She joined Fortune in May 2021 from Industry Drive.
  • Longtime senior editor at large, Shawn Tully, is now a correspondent. He has written for Fortune since the 1980s.
  • Jessica Mathews has been upped to senior reporter; she will continue editing the Term Sheet. She joined Fortune in June 2021 as a reporter after spending three years at Financial Planning.
  • Lee Clifford is now the deputy editor of investing and finance. He was most recently the magazine's finance editor and director of projects and has been on staff since 2019.
  • Eamon Barrett has been named news editor, Asia. He is based in Hong King. Most recently, Barrett was a senior writer and has been on staff since 2018.
  • Anna-Louise Jackson has joined Fortune as education editor. She was most recently a freelance financial journalist and before that reported for CNBC, NerdWallet, and Bloomberg.
  • Ruth Umoh has joined the staff as leadership editor. She joined the outlet from Paperwork Studios where she was the editor in chief of The Filament. Prior to that, Umoh was an editor at Forbes and a reporter for CNBC.
  • Nick Lichtenberg is the new executive editor of global news. He joined Fortuned from Insider, where he was most recently the deputy economy editor. Prior to that, Lichtenberg held editorial positions at Bloomberg, Reorg Research, and Mergermarket.
  • Azure Gilman has joined the staff as news editor, U.S. She was most recently a senior editor at Vice News, and before that served as deputy editor at BuzzFeed and digital editor at ABC News.

Anita Ramaswamy has joined TechCrunch as a reporter covering crypto, fintech startups, trends, and news. She was most recently a contracted contributor at the site, and before that served as a finance fellow at Insider. As a freelance writer, Ramaswamy has contributed to Brown Girl Magazine, GEN Mag, The Interlude Mag, DataDrivenInvestor, The Startup, and more.

Automotive News has tapped Claire (C.J.) Moore as a reporter covering used vehicles and wholesale auctions. She was most recently an intern at the outlet, and before that served as a student reporter at Capital News Service and the Great Lakes Echo newspaper in East Lansing, Michigan.

The San Diego Business Journal has hired two reporters:

  • Jeff Clemetson has joined the staff to cover life sciences, biotech and innovation, cybersecurity/AI, and startups. He was previously an editor at Mission Times Courier and a handful of other publications operated by San Diego Community Newspaper Group.
  • Karen Pearlman has joined the staff as a reporter covering the tourism and hospitality beats as well as retail and nonprofits. She previously spent 25 years at the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Florida Trend has hired Vickie Chachere as executive editor. Most recently, she spent five years leading communications efforts for the Office of Research & Innovation at University of South Florida, and before that served as chief speechwriter and strategic communications specialist at USF. Chachere has also reported for the Tampa Tribune and the Associated Press.

Jason Anders has been promoted to deputy editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal. He has spent more than two decades at The Journal and most recently served as chief news editor for five years. Prior to that, Anders has been business editor, deputy page one editor, senior editor of corporate news, and tech editor. Before joining The Journal in 1998 as a reporter, he was an editor at the Chicago Tribune.

The New York Times has promoted Mohammed Hadi to deputy business editor, upped from business news director. He has been at the paper since 2018 and before that worked for Business Insider as executive editor. Hadi has also worked for Bloomberg as a team lead.  

American Banker has named Chana Schoenberger editor in chief. She will lead American Banker across all channels, including American Banker Magazine, and will chair The Most Powerful Women in Banking program.  Schoenberger was most recently the editor in chief of Financial Planning and has been at Arizent since the end of 2020. Prior to that, she was managing editor of U.S. Wealth Management at J.P. Morgan Chase.

Stacker, a data-driven newswire that combines research analysis with editorial insights to produce stories optimized for distribution across a network of publications, has hired two editors and two reporters:

  • Elisa Huang has joined as deputy managing editor, studio. She previously a freelancer for almost a decade and has contributed to Inc., Every Day with Rachael Ray, San Francisco Magazine, Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food, and others. She has also held roles creating content at GOOD, Conde Nast and Time Inc.
  • Brian W. Budzynski has joined as senior editor after a brief stint as the managing editor of Alt-Meat. Before that, he was a senior managing editor at Scranton Gillette Communications, a leading brand in the infrastructure and surface transportation industry.
  • Matt Albasi has joined as senior data reporter. He spent the past two years as a data journalist at Kinsa and before that worked as an investigative data journalist for the Anti-Corruption Data Collective.
  • Sam Larson has joined as data reporter. He comes to Stacker from Fractl, where he served as survey project a manager since late 2020.

Oliver Staley has joined the Observer as senior business editor.  He joins the paper from Quartz, where he was most recently the business and culture editor since October 2019. Staley joined Quartz in 2016 after a decade at Bloomberg News covering various beats from London and New York City.  

Industry Dive has promoted Robin Robinson to lead editor of  PharmaVoice, a publication the company acquire last year and which will relaunch as a newsletter. Robinson has been the senior editor of PharmaVoice since December and before that has worked at HCPro as senior managing editor.

Roberto Torres has been promoted to editor for CIO Dive, upped from a reporter. In his new role, he will edit and report on enterprise IT, software and artificial intelligence. As a reporter, Torres covered the software industry, analytics and the future of technology, and has been on staff since May 2019. Prior to that, he was the Philly lead reporter for Technical.ly.

CBS News has hired high-profile political reporter Robert Costa as chief election and campaign correspondent. He will lead the network's political coverage of the 2022 midterms and 2024 presidential election. Costa has been a political reporter for The Washington Post since 2014, and before that worked at the right-leaning National Review magazine, where he gained attention for his congressional coverage. Costa has also served as the moderator of “Washington Week” on PBS from 2017 to 2020 and was a regular political analyst from 2015 to 2020 on MSNBC and NBC News programs.

Greg Angel has been promoted to evening anchor at Spectrum News 13 Orlando, Florida. He was previously the political reporter at the station and has been on staff since early 2018. Prior to that, Angel was a reporter/anchor for WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, and a morning anchor/assistant news director at WTXL-TV in Tallahassee, Florida, before that.

WAVE-TV, the NBC station in Louisville, Kentucky, has promoted Jenelle Shriner to news director. She succeeds Dan Fabrizio, who was promoted to a news director at WSMV-TV in Nashville. Shriner has previously held news director positions at KOLD-TV in Tucson, Arizona, and PKLC-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Pat Peterson has joined WTVA-TV, the dual NBC/ABC-affiliated television station in Tupelo, Mississippi, as news director. He spent the last five years as the news director for WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi, and earlier worked for 16 years at WKRG-TV in Mobile, Alabama.

KSHB-TV, the NBC station in Kansas City, has promoted Sean Hirshberg to assistant news director, upped from an executive producer. He has been at the station since 2013 and before that produced for KOIN-TV in Oregon and KOMU-TV in Missouri.
