The HR Specialist performs human resources-related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, HRIS, training, performance management, on-boarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance. This position will also support the Human Resources Department by assisting with the administration of various HR programs, maintaining employee records, and leading projects & programs to positive business results. The successful individual will feel comfortable working independently and confident in their decision-making abilities while having the ability to work collaboratively with the other members of the HR team. 
   

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains knowledge of HR areas such as HR policies & procedures, HR Technology, Benefits, Talent Management, etc., to assist with inquiries and questions 
  • Handles Tier 1 HR questions, issues and/or requests from employees or other parties (e.g., employment verification), referring complex and/or sensitive matters to appropriate HR team member 
  • Maintains employee records and retrieval of electronic documents to upload into the HR system 
  • Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, compliance audits and other data related audits 
  • Partners with HR Coordinator to manage Onboarding, enter New Hires, Terminations, Other Changes and review data transactions to ensure data integrity within the HR system 
  • Partners closely with the HR Technology team to ensure optimal use of the HR system in line with business requirements, assisting with special projects, reporting, and data transactions 
  • Maintains documentation of role responsibilities for process review, improvement and back-up purposes 
  • Maintains knowledge and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations  
  • Other duties as assigned to support the organization 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, and, minimum 2 - 3 years of experience, or, equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Strong communication skills, including listening, written, & verbal 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Internet, and HR Systems 
  • Intermediate Excel skills a plus 
  • Ability to build relationships and partner with multiple HR team members 
  • Strong time management skills, juggling multiple priorities and ensuring deadlines are met 
  • Excellent decision making & critical thinking skills 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Knowledge of state & federal laws and HR best practices 
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • SHRM-CP and/or PHR preferred but not required
