JOB SUMMARY: The Legal Director, APAC will handle a variety of legal matters for our APAC regional office including commercial contracts, employment, litigation, vendor contracts, and property. The geographic coverage includes Mainland China, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Australia.
This role involves:
·       Partnering with the sales teams across the APAC region on contract negotiations with customers, as well as negotiation of vendor contracts.
·       Supporting the Data Protection Officer with data privacy compliance, including negotiating DPAs. 
·      Advising the People Team on APAC employment matters, such as employment disputes and redundancies.
·      Advising the CLO and other execs and managers about various legal and non-legal issues.
·      Working with the CLO on various special projects, which may include updating regional employment agreements, rolling out localized versions of company policies, etc.
·      Travelling to other offices as/when needed, likely no more frequently than a few times per quarter. 
·       ​​ This role will be the first dedicated in-house counsel in the region. For that reason, the successful candidate will be independent and self-motivated.
·       The reporting line in this role will be a direct line to the CLO who is based in New York. There will also be a dotted line in region which will be agreed before starting in the role.
·       Given the time zone differences between New York and China, some out of hours meetings may be required from time to time.

·           a law degree and any corresponding certification that may be required to practice law in China as in house counsel
·           minimum of 4-6 years of legal experience, with at least 3 of those years as in house (preferably within a software or other technology company)
·           Fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and English, including the ability to negotiate contracts in both languages.
