Bob Doerschuk is the editor of CMA Close Up, the official member publication of the Country Music Association (CMA). “We try to appeal to the widest demographic as represented by the music industry itself,” he says. “Some of our members and some of the people whom we interview and write about have been in the business for decades and are very well-known. Others are brand new and just making their impact now. All of it is relevant, so we try to cover all the bases.”
Pitch him via e-mail; a follow-up call is welcome. He prefers press releases with high-resolution photos. “We have a fairly established community of publicists and industry contacts with whom I’ve developed good working relationships,” Doerschuk says, “but obviously there are new people breaking into that business too, and I’m happy to hear from them.” Lead time is two and a half months, meaning content for a December issue must be submitted prior to Oct. 1.
CMA Close Up is published every other month, with a circulation of approximately 7,000. This publication does not have a Web presence; the URL is for the CMA.
