Webinar Recap: 60-Minute SEO Crash Course with TopRank’s Jolina Pettice

Jolina Pettice TopRank Online Marketing and PRWeb

Title tags. 301 vs. 302.  XML. This stuff doesn’t come easily to everyone.  But it sure does to Jolina Pettice, Senior Account Manager of TopRank Online Marketing. Pettice made the complexity of Search Engine Optimization easy to understand and broke down its four fundamentals.

Code and HTML:  This is an area that needs to be consistently monitored. Make sure that you fix any and all broken links and that your page speed, which can be slowed due to large multimedia files, is fast.

Keyword research: Ask yourself: who am I trying to reach? And what are those people likely to search for?  Also, be sure to have different keyword phrases for each phase of the buying cycle, because people just kicking the tires on your business and people about to buy your product search different things – but are equally important.

Content optimization: Once you’ve determined your keywords, you’ve got to put them to use.  Keywords must be evident throughout each page on your website. And more specifically, in your title tags, meta descriptions, page headlines, onpage copy and in your text links.

Link building: Acquiring links is like electricity for search visibility. When you’re linking internally, don’t use phrases like “click here” or “read more” – that makes search engines think your website is about reading more.   Instead, use a keyword phrase.

The best part about this webinar, however, was when our wonderful host audited real PRWeb releases for their SEO capabilities.  Here’s what we found out:

  • Keywords need to be in the headline, sub-head and opening paragraph of every release you send
  • When you use hyperlink, use a keyword phrase. For example: a link shouldn’t read PRWeb. It should read news release distribution.  You just have to find a way to work that phrase into a sentence – without making it read awkward.
  • Take advantage of additional opportunities.  Be sure to include a video, image or file.   And when you do, use keyword phrases in ALT text, the title, the file name, etc.

It truly was a great webinar with a bunch of amazing SEO tips.  We’d expect nothing less from one of TopRank’s finest – thanks Jolina!
