HARO Helps Hail Heroic Hound (And Other Success Stories)

Working in his garden one October, Richard Schulenberg of Los Angeles began sweating profusely and experiencing chest pains. He was having a heart attack. Slowly and painfully, he began making his way towards his house. He was managing just a few feet at a time when his dog, an English Setter named Falstaff, arrived on the scene and sensed his distress. Falstaff began barking relentlessly and continued until he’d alerted Richard’s partner Arlene Winnick, who rushed to the backyard, found her husband and drove him to the ER, saving his life.

The stage was set for Falstaff, already a hero dog in his owners’ eyes, to become a hero on a wider stage.

Enter HARO – or Help A Reporter Out – our publicity alerts service that connects people and businesses (and hero dogs) with journalists and media outlets like US News & World Report. This news outlet published a query in the HARO email asking for owners of heroic animals to come forward. After answering the call, Schulenberg, Winnick and Falstaff found themselves the stars of a national feature called Furry Friends to the Rescue.

With HARO, you don’t have to be a PR pro to get yourself, your business or your dog in the news.  HARO’s Publicity Alerts tell you what stories  and sources journalists are looking for, and you reply when you see a request that matches your story or expertise. It’s helped thousands and thousands of people connect with reporters – here are just a few more satisfied customers.

I am an avid HARO fan – I own my own PR company, and review the HARO queries every day.  I responded to one query several months ago, a freelancer looking for architectural details…  I sent her some information on one of my clients, Connor Homes, and she was thrilled.  She interviewed the company owner, and we secured some fantastic publicity on!

This week alone, my book Creating Job Security Resource Guide was mentioned on Payscale, CNN and USA Weekend. Thank you HARO. I really appreciate the connections.

I ended up being a lead-in source for a article because of HARO. It was a great feature, and I made a fantastic connection with the journalist.

Jaime Palmucci

I was recently quoted in an article on and am really proud of it.  The opportunity came from replying to a HARO query.  The writer responded, we set up an interview, and a week and a half later, it was live!

Now, we’ve made HARO better; with a range of new, advanced features available in three new packages. Take a look at the Standard, Advanced and Premium options and see which one is right for you.
