“Fun Fact” Friday — 10/28: Halloween

We’ve successfully made it to another week to Friday! I don’t know about you, but my week was a little extra hectic trying to pull together all the pieces for my Halloween costume this weekend. In anticipation for the holiday weekend, we’ve been tracking “Halloween” and “Halloween costume” conversations across the social Web…

This week’s featured profile is… Halloween!

Regardless of how you celebrate (throwing/attending parties, dressing up,Organic Candy Corn going trick-or-treating, handing out treats…), Halloween is one of the most festive holidays this country has. Because of the variety of celebrations and creativity involved, there’s a lot of chatter that happens with regards to preparation. At the office, there have been lots of costume idea discussions… Storm troopers, Buzz Lightyear, pirates, Chewbacca, sultans, mermaids, paintball guy?…

So this week, we took a look at the social media activity about the upcoming holiday and costume ideas. Here’s a look at some of the stats over the past week:

  • Over the past 7 days, there have more than 88,464 mentions posted about Halloween and 32,238 mentions about Halloween costumes across the social Web.
  • There were 51,846 unique authors on Twitter with a total potential impact of 39,808,917 people.
  • Sounds like I’m part of the majority who is excited about Halloween: 77% of mentions on Twitter expressed positive sentiment, 13% neutral and 10% negative… On Facebook, 88% of mentions were positive, 6% were neutral and 6% were negative.
  • The top influencers by impact on Twitter were @TheEllenShow@mashable@Etsy, @HuffingtonPost, @SouthwestAir and @PlayStation based on number of followers.
  • @viralheat identified 23,171 leads with its Human Intent feature.
  • On Twitter, 48% of mentions contained links and the top day for posting was Monday.
  • The top shared site for videos was YouTube.
  • Here are some Halloween-related tweets, just for fun:
