Got a New Year’s Resolution? There’s an app for that.

The New Year is a great time to reflect on the past and embrace the coming year. It is also an opportunity to start anew and set goals for the next 365 days. The most popular resolutions revolve around fitness goals, time management, travel, time with family and friends, and stopping bad habits (smoking, drinking, gambling, etc.). While our intentions are good, most of us rarely keep our resolutions and tend to recycle them for the next year. Luckily if you’re a smartphone user, there are a few apps to keep you on track and finally keep those well intended resolutions.

Perhaps the most popular (and often ignored) resolution is to lose weight. It sounds exciting at the start of a brand new year however when you’re out late partying with friends, stuck at work all day, or just recovering from the holidays; the next day all thought of working out vanishes. The fine folks at GymPact have launched just the app for you. Instead of paying a gym membership fee, you make a bet with yourself and collect financial rewards for achieving your goals. The penalty for missing a gym/workout date is $5 which goes into a collective pot for other app users. You either win or lose. This could either motivate or deter you.

To help you keep track of your resolutions this year, tackle your time management, and schedule in time with family and friends, check out the Habits Pro (winner of the MacLife App showdown) app. For $4.99, Habits Pro allows you to manage your tasks and provides helpful graphs to track your progress. Set goals within the app and what you need to do to accomplish them. As you mark each task off, the app will track your progress, reward you with badges, and also allows you to share your success on Twitter to help keep you motivated.

The new year is also an opportunity to curb bad habits like smoking, drinks, and/or drugs. There are a couple of apps for these tough to tackle tasks.

If your resolution this year is to quit smoking the LiveStrong MyQuit Coach app is good place to start. Physician approved, the app helps you set up easy to track goals. The interactive screens allows you to track the money saved by not smoking, monitor your progress, and also monitor and curb your nicotine cravings.

To quit drinking or drugs this year, check out OneRecovery. OneRecovery is program built by people in recovery for people in recovery. The online network provides a safe space for members to communicate, share stories, work on their recovery, and support each other. OneRecovery currently supports and provides 12 step programs for Alcohol, Cocaine, Crystal Meth, Debtors, Eating, Gambling, and Narcotics to name a few. You can get online support, find a meeting in your area, or suggest a meeting for a common addiction to start your own OneRecovery program.
