How PRWeb’s financial visibility reaches mobile readers

As a PR profor PRWeb’s parent company, Vocus, I’m pretty enthusiastic about the enhanced online visibility and social sharing.  The screenshot nearby will tell you why.  Let me explain.

The screenshot is from my iPhone –  it’s the iPhone app for Yahoo! Finance.  I check it at least twice daily usually mid-morning and in the evening to see both how the market is doing (or did) and my own company’s stock is performing.  Notice our own press release, boxed in red, and prominently visible.

So what, right?   There’s more to it than that.  You see, I’m checking this information on a mobile device – and it’s delivered to that device via Yahoo!   That’s the new normal – that’s the important trend: more and more people, including your customers, prospects, investors and community at large are getting their news on the go.  People in general, are going mobile.

According to Pew Research 88% of Americans alone – more than 300 million people – own mobile phones and it’s not just young adults.  Americans of all ages use these devices, for example 77% of those ages 12-17 own mobile phones as do 67% of those age 65 and over.  If those numbers are impressive, then world-wide, they must be staggering, especially if we add in the explosion in other devices like tablet computers.

If people own mobile devices, it’s no surprise that they’ll use them to consume news and information on the go.  In fact, NPR reported, in a story exploring whether or not mobile devices increase our appetite for news, that one in four Americans consume news on mobile devices.

It’s easy to understand why:  We are increasingly pressed for time and with ever growing sources of content, we’re browsing more and more when we have a minute here and there while on the move; while in line for a taxi, at the check-out register in the grocery store, or when waiting for a meeting to begin.

PRWeb knows that well-written, original press releases, properly optimized for search, and preferably accompanied with multimedia draws more content consumers for longer periods of time.  Now with enhanced visibility, we’re providing more opportunities for you to reach people – people on the go – like your future customers.

Speaking of which, I’ve got to go.  Good thing I’ve got my phone.
