Social media heroes
Social media is more than just a useful tool for businesses; it has become increasingly imperative for newspapers to share content, engage readers and break news on various platforms if they want to stay in the game. The country’s national newspapers have amassed huge followings with Twitter “Klout” scores to be envied. So what papers can we deem our social media heroes? inVocus has compiled a list of popular newspapers based on Twitter followers and Facebook “likes.” The newspapers below are tops in terms of social media, and were vetted from top-tier papers, which based on our methodology includes the largest circulated paper from each state and the next 50 highest circulation papers from across the country. Most papers have multiple Twitter streams for various sections of the paper, so we’ve only based the numbers on each paper’s main Twitter account. Since the New York Times is No. 1 in both categories, we’ve also listed the next top 10. All numbers below reflect the most current tallies as of this morning:
