Earned Media Management: The Evolution of PR and Comms Learn More

Popular moms blogging

The number of moms blogging about the trials and tribulations of parenthood has steadily grown since the craze began earlier in the last decade. Based on opinions from a handful of mommy-blog readers, inVocus has featured five blogs that are popular as well as unique.  From focusing on design to budgeting, PR pros searching for the right mommy blog to pitch shouldn’t have a problem:

Scary Mommy – Highly popular, this mommy blog started by author Jill Smokler focuses on the challenges and pitfalls of motherhood, as well as the triumphs. “Jill’s honest and says what I only think in my head some days about my kids or situations. And she wrote a book too!” said Regina Sober, author of the blog CrazyNutsMom. It’s also funny and provides a raw look at what real life is really like, noted Ellie S. Grossman, also a mommy blogger.

Frugal Mama – This aesthetically simple blog is the brainchild of bloggess Amy Suardi, a mother of four who focuses on family living and household budgeting. Rebecca Desfosse, mother and author of a similarly themed blog, is a fan of Suardi’s mommy blog. “Her ideals so align with my own, it was blog love at first sight,” she said. “I would definitely recommend this site to anyone looking for simple, natural ways to save money and live life to its fullest potential.”

Mommy Perks – Focusing on parenting, small business and social media, Mommy Perks offers advice and personal stories. “I love Mommy Perks, they have a great mix of mommy tips, small business tips, product reviews, giveaways, and parenting resources. They also have amazing tweets and Facebook updates; a definite winner and one of my favorite mommy blogs!” said Christy Cook, president of TeachMy.com.

Bearded Iris – Heavy on the humor, this blog offers personal stories about the challenges of parenthood and features content on domestic living and motherhood. “Bearded Iris I love because she finds hilarity in such unexpected moments and then mines them until I’m laughing so hard that I’m crying. I especially love the moments she shares regarding her son – who is definitely one of a kind. She is always working so hard to bring laughter to her readers and somehow manages to deliver day in and day out and it never feels forced,” said Kirsten Bischoff, cofounder of HatchedIt.com, an interactive family calendar.

Design Mom – Focusing on family living and design in the French countryside, it offers product reviews, art and commentary. “Reading Design Mom is like having a window into a life I fantasize about,” said Bischoff. “But my favorite posts are the ‘living with kids’ interviews showcasing beautiful homes where real people with real kids manage to live simply, creatively and elegantly.”
