The Press Release: Dead or Alive? Take The Quiz!

Sit back and relax in August

When: Aug. 15

What: Stress. It can eat away at a person, causing anxiety, tension or irritability. It is an unwelcome feeling that everyone goes through at one point or another. The key is relaxation. Finding a good balance between healthy stress and healthy relaxation is important. On Aug. 15, take a moment to let your worries go on National Relaxation Day.

Background: Although pleasant, relaxing doesn’t have to mean sipping fruity drinks on a tropical beach somewhere. Finding time to relax can be as simple as taking a moment to do some deep breathing. Finding little moments to take care of yourself and de-stress is important to a stable and happy lifestyle.

Story Pitch: A number of retailers and organizations can pitch around National Relaxation Day. Travel agents and agencies will want to note the importance of an occasional vacation, allowing for time to de-stress and unplug. Additionally, yoga studios may encourage people to relax and unwind through meditative exercise, while spas and health clubs that offer massages and other stress relieving services can promote the benefits of pampering yourself. Book stores and authors may want to highlight self-help books targeted at helping readers to de-stress, while retailers providing products to help people relax can promote their goods.

Story Hook: According to the American Institute of Stress, 40 percent of workers reported that their job was extremely stressful. Consider the following when making your pitch:

  • What are some factors that can lead to added stress?
  • What are some simple stress relieving techniques that can be done during the work day?
  • How does stress affect the body?
  • How can you alleviate stress at home?

Tips: An employee or manager at a stress management clinic can offer tips on how to relax and find balance in daily life. In addition, someone with a high stress job can provide insight on how they manage to keep their cool.
