Social Media Strategies for the Holidays

The holidays? What? Yep. I still remember ringing in 2013 and it’s hard to believe I’ll be getting ready to ring in a new year in a few months. Kinda scary isn’t it? What’s even scarier than a brand new year? Not having a strategy for the two major holidays that come before it. Oh yeah, those! If you plan correctly, Thanksgiving and Christmas can be two profitable strategies for you and get you geared up for the new year. If you haven’t started planning yet, don’t fret. There’s still some time albeit a bit limited.

‘Tis the season. The more the merrier: When it comes to the holidays, don’t be afraid of multiple strategies to increase engagement and sales. Dig deep into your insights and analytics and figure out who your target market is. What are they talking about? What do they want? Can you offer a discount on something? A gift card? If you’re afraid of driving away fans during this time, don’t be. Everyone is looking for gift ideas or something they can win during this time, so be there to give them what they want and you all win.

Run timeline contests: Facebook has recently loosened up restrictions regarding timeline contests. You no longer need a third party app to run a contest so don’t be shy in running crazy with your new found Facebook freedom. Run some specials for Black Friday, count down to Christmas, and maybe give something away every week if you’re feeling generous.

Set a big budget: All these promos, coupons, and contests cost some major money. You might be giving it away for free but it’s still costing you somewhere. Make sure you allocate some budgeting into this and then prepare to reap the benefits from that extra money you set aside for your social strategy. Also remember that a lot of fan pages might have this strategy so don’t be afraid to also allocate some Facebook ad money into your strategy to boost posts or sponsor your page.

Don’t ignore your channels: A key part of your social selling strategy is to continue monitoring your feeds and to make sure you’re paying attention to any feedback or questions regarding your various promotions or brand related questions. Don’t take a holiday just because it is the holidays. Stay diligent like you have been throughout the year and it will pay off for you.
