#MetricsChat Recap: Matt Siltala discusses “shareable” visual content

Yesterday, we had the privilege of having Matt Siltala, President & Founder of Avalaunch Media as our expert guest for the #MetricsChat series. We had a very fruitful conversation around the topic “Creating Shareable Visual Content“. The key takeaway from this 30 minutes long Twitter chat was that marketers need to focus on the “shareable” aspect of the content they publish.

Our expert shared several great tips and techniques on how to go about curating and creating the right content for your audience. So, without much ado, find below some cool discussion bits from the chat. Hope you enjoy the conversation!

Q1. @TEK: a) What is the best basic metric to use in content marketing that you would be proud of communicating to clients? b) How often do you promote older content and for how long?
A1. @Matt_Siltala: a) There are many different things clients are looking for, such as: leads, links, branding, social mentions. So it really comes down to what their goals are. b) Great Question … always pay attention to analytics of any site (Pinterest for example) and repurpose the best content. Usually the initial promotion lasts about a week, but that does not mean that is all that can be done. If the content is good enough it will live YEARS as I have shown with the Social MeOWdia example we have. 3 years later and it continues to be shared at a decent rate.

Q2. @lsvitenko: What is the difference between infographics and data visualization?
A2. @Matt_Siltala: They can be two of the same. You can visualize your data inside infographics, but there are a lot of “infographics” that really are just “fungraphics” no real info in them.

Q3. @suruchisharma23:  What should be kept in mind while creating powerful visual content? Any tips?
A3. @Matt_Siltala: One of the main things you need to ask yourself is “Is it shareable?” I am not a fan of the word “Viral” I like the word shareable much more.

Q4.@BradWard05: What’s the best way to cite sources for your visual data? Can that help build credibility?
A4. @Matt_Siltala: Yes, I usually like including it on the graphic or write text around the graphic where I would cite and show info and it absolutely does help build credibility.

Q5. @DRayG86What do you think is the next gen platform for sharing/promoting content? and why?
A5.@Matt_Siltala:I have been seeing a lot of Brand starting to do more with SnapChat and have been seeing some cool “story boards”. I also think brands are embracing Instagram more and figuring out how to use it to their advantage as far as promoting I love Buzzsumo but good old fashion outreach will always win. even taking advantage of places like Buzzfeed and getting your feet wet and seeing what you can do is a great start. We created this content 3 years ago and it is STILL getting shared avalaunchmedia.com/infographics/s… in fact just today …..I learned it will be published in over 80k textbooks.

Q6. @dumb_captcha: What content do you find most irrelevant that is pushed by companies?
A6.@Matt_Siltala: Content created JUST for search engines … its obvious. Stay away from creating content for the sake of creating.

Q7. @TEK: What type of content generally does best for B2B leads, and on what network/distro channel?
A7. @Matt_Siltala: Pitch Decks, eBooks, White papers and Apps are all great for that, and can be distributed different places depending on the topic or industry.
