Star Tribune Buys City Pages and Shutters Vita.mn
Star Tribune has acquired City Pages from Voice Media Group. In the process of the acquisition, Star Tribune Media Co. indicated that it would shutter the Star Tribune’s website and weekly tabloid, Vita.mn. The final edition of Vita.mn will be published this week. The editorial staff at City Pages will remain largely unchanged and will function independently of the Star Tribune newspaper and website. City Pages publisher Mary Erickson and editor Pete Kotz will remain in charge at the alternative weekly. City Pages began as a music publication in 1979 under the name Sweet Potato. The publication grew over the years, working to include city news, sports and entertainment as a weekly newspaper published for the residents of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
