New Horizons: BuzzFeed, Bravo, and The White House have hired their first openly transgender staffers in the roles of staff writer, cast member of the popular Real Housewives franchise, and outreach and recruitment director for presidential personnel, respectively (The Friskey); With marijuana legal in Oregon, The Oregonian is seeking a marijuana critic (AdWeek)
The Buzz: BuzzFeed has been making other headlines this week for securing a cool $200 million in investments from NBCU (BuzzFeed); Plans to launch a Japan edition in collaboration with Yahoo (POLITICO); and Jonah Peretti taking an anti-union stance during a wave of unionization across many new media companies (Gawker)
Save the Drama For Yo’ Mama: The Ashley Madison hack exposed millions, and notably reality star and lobbyist Josh Duggar (Chicago Tribune); Put your wallets away, Mort Zuckerman has called off the sale of Daily News (FishbowlNY); Breitbart publishes a false expose accusing Shaun King of lying about his race (CNN); A bad week for Bloomberg with the announcement of layoffs (Talking Biz News) and breaking the Fed notes embargo (Talking Biz News)
