Gerald F. Seib Promoted at WSJ Washington Bureau

The Wall Street Journal has promoted Gerald F. Seib to executive Washington editor and chief commentator. He will begin in the role effective January 2017, and will continue to write his Capital Journal column. He has served as the newspaper’s Washington bureau chief since 2010, and has been with the paper since 1978. He has held a number of titles in the nearly four decades he’s been at the paper, from Dallas reporter, to Cairo correspondent, to new editor. 

In addition, WSJ has named Paul Beckett as Seib’s replacement as Washington bureau chief, and he will also serve as deputy managing editor. Beckett has served the Asia editor for the paper out of the Hong Kong bureau since 2013, and has held a number of bureau chief roles during his 18 year career at the paper, including stints as the London bureau chief and deputy bureau chief, and as the South Asia bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal Asia.
